intensity GD / sound level low but good. I think it is mostly Jerry and Phil on the WBYG lyrics. oh, there is Pig! That is pretty cool. A little Weir right towards the end as well. Bye, Bye with drummer outro.. Weir Sing along , not going to happen-funny!

Good old days!
I remember this night quite well actually. It was the Dead's first appearance at the Shrine Exposition Hall after their landmark "Two from the Vault"

shows back in August and they were ready to rock! I think this was the night I saw Pigpen out in the crowd after the Dead's set. It wasn't all that unusual back then to see musicians in the hall watching the other bands. Pigpen, however, wasn't there to listen to music. No, he was looking for female companionship for the rest of the night...and he wasn't all that particular! Anyway, the Dead always played beautifully at the Shrine and they still dressed up for their shows then. I remember Phil dressed all in black as a preacher with the big wide brimmed hat. They played mostly stuff from Anthem of the Sun which I still think is their best album. So perfect for the time. Country Joe and the Fish also played but they were clearly gone to seed by then and had to borrow Mark Andes from Spirit to play bass. Too bad really, they were awesome in their prime.

Eleven>Alligator then the only other known time the band did this segue was during the fantastic 4/23/69 Eleven>Gator jam. this one is great in its own right, following the very fast paced and intense style the band would carry over into early '69, one of my favorite periods of GD music. 4 stars for very hissy and somewhat degraded sound - but '68 aficionados such as myself should not pass this up!

this perfectly acceptable quality and the playing is full of fire. Check out the Caution in particular. Some people dismiss Feedback, but not me. I'm always amazed at the subtlety and harmony involved in these pieces. And even Pigpen chimes in on AWBYG. If you like '68, and don't mind a little hiss, get this one. 4 stars.

is another one of those "gap" shows (between well-known shows) that I had been searching for for a long time,ya know, a live 68 Cryptical from some little theater/gym, where little surprises abound and where every second is sacred.

done the eleven before jumping in to alligator. It is certainly possible. Just my opinion, but listen and you may feel the same. I give this one a 4, since the Alligator>Caution is hot, but sound is a little poor.
