everyone “knowing time”. Pretty righteous seen’ as how the next set kicks off with Phil infused Scarlet/Fire. Next we do a little Sampson & Delilah for fun before we take it up a notch to Terrapin/Playin’ into a little Drums/Space action 🥁 🪘 💫✨ rounded out with a Black Peter/Truckn’ with a Good Lovin’ encore. All in all l, no too shabby. Early ‘78 still gettin’ some residual ‘77 vibes. Albeit a bit watered down. Still worth more than 28,768 views. Might be a better quality version hiding out there. Stay weird ✌️🤪

Uptown Winter '78 Run- Night 2
Folkhippy's got a point: This winter tour is hot. Of course, much of it is marred by Jerry's laryngitis at the start and the consequent vocal issues in

recovery. But raspy-Jer' can still play his guitar and he certainly gets five-stars for trying. I'd amend his comment, though: some of the early Jan. shows aren't great. Tour really lifts off from Eugene on the 22nd to the end, Cedar Falls on 5 Feb. I'm partial to the third night of the run (and the excellent SBD recently uploaded), but this night rivals it and might even be its best. My first set highlights include a strong Half-Step opener, a drippy They Love Each Other, and a smoking Let it Grow to close. Second set, though, is where it's at. The boys came to play. This scarlet-fire is better than previous Chicago one on 13 May '77. Samson is a rager, and then we're treated to a nearly 60-minute suite that includes Terrapin->PITB->drums/space->Black Peter->Truckin'->Good Lovin'. So good, there's no encore!

on -tonight! (I like Donna is working tonight) Tenn Jed-This song is rough on Garcia's voice. played this pretty regularly so far in 78. El Paso- good. Jerry prominent towards end Candyman- Ouch! sounds like a few of my old tapes. Minglewood- When is this not a rowdy rocker! T.L.E.O.-Jerry got raspi-ness going. well played. Let it Grow- unusual intro, riff on that strumming Wow about 6.30 in Garcia goes for it in a big way. Just took my breath away. Got my attention. Good set with strong opener and stronger closer, perhaps a tad short for 78 but closes on a HIGH!!! Set 2 Scarlet >Fire- good jams, enjoy Donna moaning low SAMSON & DELILAH-very nice! they are groovin! T-E-R-R-A-P-I-N> P.I.T.B>-very intricate, very Phil, very Weir,JERRY! Mini----- Drumz > Space, B. Peter>This is an intense Black Peter!!! (Lengthier than original versions of 1970) Intro into Truckin is excellent / Sweet!!! Truckin> Good Lovin' (That's a nifty double shot.) Sounded like they were almost going to do a Playin' reprise but it's Good Lovin' Always get that La Bamba vibe/ flashback! Donna a large part of this show. Second Set- great stacked tune selection -IMHO-in top 5 of January 1978

Worth the stars just for that. (To be super picky there is some diginoise during LIG.) They Love Each Other through Playing In The Band is very good GD.

Better Than Expected
This show was surprisingly good (I don't particularly like 1978 as a whole), and a lot of the songs that sounded best to me are not songs that I'm terribly

interested in hearing all of the time. For instance, Minglewood really smoked, and Keith sounded interested in playing. Ditto for They Love Each Other. The Scarlet/Fire (which is a typical favorite), while not the best ever, was high-quality throughout. Even Good Lovin at the end was fun to listen to. I'd recommend this show if you aren't looking for a way out-there vibe, but just some good songs well played.
