This was my last show as a touring Deadhead. Thanks for the memories everybody!
This is a pretty typical show for '94, hit and miss with Jerry never quite ... dialing it in. with the notable exception of the picture perfect reading of Days Between.
First set is decent, with a great Stagger Lee, and a really spacey Deal closer. The 2nd set is much better, with a way spaced Saint to open, which was rare as an opener. Next up a great Jerry blues combo; New Speedway is a great song and though this version is a little on the sloppy side it was still fun. They jam this straight into a heartfelt Nobodys Fault; Jerry really gets into the lyrics, as if he knows that the downward spiral his life was in at this point was indeed, nobodys fault but his own. Also this is the first tour w/ telepromters. An average Women are Smarter leads into drums. The space on this night is particularly good & long, there's like 10 minutes of solid jamming with the drummers before launching into a smokin' Miracle, one of my favorite versions from any era. Next the highlight of the show; acrystal clear Days Between, THE BEST EVER, this is one of the highest highlights of my dead career[spanning more than 30 shows]. I think it was Vince that said, on a good night this song just pours out, let me tell you, this one pours like Niagara. Also this is the last song Jerry & Hunter wrote together, this alone gives the song added weight; it is also, lyrically, one of their most affecting compositions, and thanks to the telepromter, Jerry nails all the words, very rare for this song. Its also musically profound. If you put all this together with the pristine performance and you have what I think is one of the most poignent moments in the Deads entire career. Lesh calls this song "achingly nostalgic", it definately makes me think of those hearts of summer held in trust, that I personaly have left on shelves collecting dust. WOW, THATS DEEP! The Lovelight closer was a bit of a letdown after the emotional roller coaster of the Days. This beeing my last show on tour Brokedown is the PERFECT encore. Mama, Mama, many worlds I've come since I first left home. This is a very crisp board, though with the exeption of the Days Between I wont recomened it for anybody that wasnt there. At least listen to the Days while in a mellow headspace and I promise it wont disapoint.

Like all shows in the 90's, musically unable to compete with the band in their prime, but the Days Between is a masterpiece -5 star- Garcia sounds like

Devastating. Brilliant. Haunting, even a day after you've hard it.
Possibly the best performance of Days, and certainly among the top performances of ... Jerry's career, this ranks with Jerry's most powerful moments, the Morning Dew's of 1973-74, Mountains of the Moon of 1969, and others.
A momentary resurgence of brilliance, clarity, and technical agility out of the cloud of self-abuse that snuffed it all out 8 months later. Jerry knows what's happening to him, and this performance of Days is a self portrait. Hunter's lyrics have never sounded so profound.
Sixteen years after Jerry's passing, the Dead still produce good times for listeners. This Days Between is much, much more.
The rest of the show is good, particularly for the time, when good shows were not all that common. Perhaps 4 stars if you take the 30-years into perspective. But with this Days Between, this show deserves a high place in the Dead canon.

I have to agree that this "Days Between" was sweet and the show all together was sounding sweet which was getting harder and harder to say then. i was

also opting out on more shows there at the end. But, wasn't that the way we all got our bootlegs at one point? I mean, if you were fortunate enough to have a friend that was a taper and he was fortunate enough to be patched into the sound board for the show,then he would get the show on DAT and I think that DAT recorders had tapes back then and then he would run copies out of his van or hotel room onto Maxell XL 90's and presto! You got a great sounding tape of a hopefully Hot show. The world was just starting to go digital and even though I have more shows in digital than I will count right now, back then on tour I was happy to have a 1/2 dozen good shows on tape. And I always ended that tour with a totally different 1/2 dozen shows. (~);}

I had been seeing the Dead since 1977, I witnessed many incarnations. I kept going to shows through the years, occasionally catching some very good ones.
...
After all a bad dead show is better than anything else. In '92 and '93 it was tough, they didn't seem into it. i really liked Days Between when i first heard it but Jerry never "nailed" it. Until this show, not only that but after what happened 8&1/2 months later, I think this whole show was perhaps the return of the boys we all loved so much. Phil nailed Broken arrow. Bobby on miricle and Lovelight might have been the best i had seen for a long long time. Anytime when you get a "new Speedway Boogie" it's always a plus. I thought this show was a comeback. Then Jerry played "Days Between" oh my fucking God. It might have been the most emotional I've been at a show for a long time. Of course I had my new wife there so that might have had something to do with it. Anyway without a doubt, this is the last great show I saw....Peace and love all

TRAFFIC & the Dead; priceless ! !

Best show i have ever attended. Imagine TRAFFIC, the Dead, and a THUNDERSTORM ... that was magical ! Music was bang'n! The gift from the heavens that day was incredible. When the rains came, Traffic was at 'one' with the universe as they transitioned with/to the Dead. Nearly unbelievable that lightening and rain limited its energy to electrifying the air and not the ground. As for the plastic 'tarps',.. i only had to take one step back to avoid them. ...i already had my shirt off so as to be ready for when the rains came...how could i miss the chance to kid-up with that rain...(i'll not forget the smile from an angel who helped me up when i slid on the mudbank). ..7.29.1994 was nearly too good to be true. ?did you get your 'Plant Trees" bumper sticker in the parking field? Please, always be mindful that Conservation Matters, and do your part to stop energy waste !

Subject: Show was outstanding, but although pitch control I repsect greatly..
Pitch control I respect greatly, in fact in the analog days I was quite particular about keeping my decks adjusted speed wise but, isn't it possibly these
...
days to use a digital device as I've seen in other cases, (name escapes me ?) Obviously I'm not doing the work, although if I had all what is needed I'd surely do it.
What I'm getting at, is it seems to correct the pitch is the reason at least once to go back to analog after originally digital. However even so, the master DAT was obviously malfunctioning, since DAT's are supposed to be have a time sync track in order keep them at the correct speed. Otherwise, how could the pitch become incorrect ?
Moreover, what I'm really driving at unless one simply doesn't have a choice, (example, see below), is once digital, a recording should remain digital; even if it was originally analog ! It makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE whatsoever, to be going back and forth, between technologies !
Example of a no choice : if one is making a personal copy, not intended to be copied further, of an originally digital recording because either the place/situation where it is to be played back, can't accommodate digital playback or one doesn't have a digital recorder of any sort and it is one's only opportunity to obtain the recording; which I guess for us that are downloading this post, at least presently, falls into the later category. But then to pass it along further really should be avoided, if at all possible !
That is why, even though I was at all of these shows and thoroughly enjoyed them, (which coming from me was becoming increasingly scarce except for the new songs); I'm forced to give this only a 3 !
