Bobby seems to be unusually spunky throughout. Could have been the joke to start the night. Don't recall that kind of Lost Sailor improvisation since

he was still working the lyrics out.

"What's the difference between a frog?"
This is the joke that Bobby tells at the beginning of this show, while the Crack 'Quipment Crew deals with technical issues. A good sign that the band
...
is loose and in a good mood. Bobby is exceptionally chatty all night long. Anybody who has read some of my other reviews here knows I'm a BIG fan of Brent's keyboard playing. If you are like me, you will enjoy this show. Brent really is on fire here, and it helps that he's up in the mix. Was there ever a stronger version of Samson? Just listen to him! Bob's unusual babbling during Samson just makes it all the better. A pity there is a glitch in Samson, where the 2nd chorus is missing. Despite the missing small chunks of tunes (also missing a bit of Saint Of Circumstance and Sugar Magnolia) this is a rock-solid second set. Everybody is playing really well here, except for the occasional Jerry miscue where he gets ahead of himself. This Scarlet-Fire is particularly good, too. There's a moment before the first verse of Fire that Brent does this little "percolater" thing on the B3, then slides his hands over the keys up the register really fast. His percussive approach to the B3 gets me every time. Drums > Space > Spanish Jam is very high-energy, with the drums somewhat reminiscent of a couple track on Mickey's "Dafos" CD. The Other One is a little sloppy; the band's exuberence gets the better of them between verses and they lose their place for a little while. Once they get back on track, they're rockin' again. Wharf Rat is strong but not a standout, and the Sugar Magnolia has Bobby doing some great rock star improv rap. The Don't Ease encore is full of life; always liked that tune. There is some odd warbling on the recording, most notably just before Lost Sailor starts. Nevertheless, it is a minor issue, and isn't terribly noticable when the music is playing. Arguably the best show of the Europe 1981 run. Solid performance; slight sound issues...4 stars. Sean K.

The pitch on this recording is quite flat.
The quality of the recording is fine but the pitch is so flat it is distracting.

If you like this period, get this show. Jerry shines. Good sound, high energy, nice and crisp, tight playing. See the Brown Eyed Women, and the Deal.
