An Orlando Monday Nite
Did anyone notice it was a Monday? Or make inane comments like, "Hunh, not bad....FOR A MONDAY!" Ahhhh, yes, but the first set is graced with good versions
...
of good songs, but there is a slightly irritating interference on the SBD ~ I am guessing that's where it exists ~ naturally, but believing this will work itself out as it usually did back in those days. The interference I am referencing sounds like an old FM broadcast, but, of course, we know it's not an FM broadcast. The interference permeates every frequency, so I conclude it was inherent in the SBD and largely in-correctable. Ces't la Vie! Too bad because, for audiophiles, it disrupts an otherwise well-played first set. Fortunately, Dan Healy, or whomever ~ maybe one of the roadies, finally found the interference and alleviated it. (Probably changed a battery) So, .... The second set is smoke and mirrors, chrome bumpers and gilded candelabra. Every note is the definition of total enlightenment. Midway through the drumz>jam Mickey is on the Beam and playing the rhythm to "Jingo." Then Jerry comes streaking in with his polished french horn sound blowing us into the Wheel, and then into Miracle. One has to understand the GD in 1991. This was a mature Jerry, a "relieved" Jerry because he could sit on shaping the melody while Bruce and Vince were conceiving it. He didn't have to be the whole band. He could finally relax, and defer, and blow. This guitar work of his is not 1969 gnat notings. His guitar work is sculpted. Listening to the sculpture of this work is sending chills up my spine through the inevitability of a Morning Dew relapse. Layer after layer of Garcia weaving his horn-sound guitar through various keyboardai. This is such a well-proportioned and even recording it is rapidly banging on all cycles! And there's Jerry = no strain, no effort = just cranking!! How do I know they enjoyed themselves this night = Johnny B. Goode, their signature of a show well done. I love Monday!

for Brent Mydland was an awesome surprise. I didn't realize it was him until almost half-waythrough the show!

Easily a solid 4 star 1991 performance. Beautiful renditions of just about every tune played on this particular evening. Great sounding show all around,

As I recall...
This was the hottest of the 3 Orlando shows. I'd rank 'em 2nd night, first night then third night as far as performance goes. All 3 nights were a blast,
...
and campin' at the KOA campground was a treat. I remember sittin' outside the Arena before the show started. This cop cruises up and gets out of his car. I have a cup of beer. He sees this and starts walking over. I chug the beer. He asks what's in the cup. Burp...nothing. What was in the cup. Beer. Good thing it's empty then. That's why I chugged it...all the while my friend's stickin' a Dead tour '91 sticker on the bumper of his car...classic... This show smoked from start to finish. High energy on stage and in the crowd. Maggie's Farm was blissful, and the entire 2nd set was as good as it got in '91, IMHO. I'll give it...4 stars because I haven't herd the recording yet... But this show is a gem...
