The polish of the '93 sound system and so forth is there, and there are some hot licks, but everything feels a bit disjointed and boring.

I only attended Landover & Albany on this tour. After listening to other shows, i think i got 6 of the best. This 1st night at Cap Centre was just
...
beautiful with all the ballads.
My wife was pregnant with our son, so this run is very memorable. The 1st set list was like The Dead providing us with a list of names to choose from, all J's & Cassidy. But Jimmy Jr is just too... well... hee haw. So, we ruled out all the J's Jed, John, Jack...
The Scarlet-->Fire was smokin' tonight. It was our 1st "So Many Roads" and i'd listen to it over & over for years to come. These 6 shows were a great introduction to the new tunes in the vast repertoire.
"Morning Dew" takes on a whole new meaning when your expecting, lemmee tell ya. Tears to the eyes and fear of all fears.

I think this is one of the under-rated shows from this tour and the 90's. Having seen all the shows on this tour, this show is passed over by the next
...
night, first night Albany, and first night Nassau. However, although the crowd went nuts for LSD the next night, this show holds up better from start to finish imo, and I think it was the best show at this run and one of the best, if not the best of this tour. The Jack Straw is one of the best of the 90's and a good rival for Buckey later that Summer (which I caught about 100 feet from stage in the Phil Zone and yes, it was unearthly and the Jack Straw>Foolish Heart may be the best opening pairing I ever heard live). Particularly present in the mix is Bill and Mickey. During Jerry's solo's, they drive the music and we end up with Jerry wailing and Bill and Mickey driving him note for note. Row Jimmy has a great flute type midi Jerry uses. Cassidy starts out at a slow pace, but picks up. Vince is steady during the jam part of the song but he is not overbearing. He then comes in nice when they circle around to the final lyrics. Scarlet begins with Jerry really accentuating the words in a way I don't think I have heard him do much before. He seems really into it. The transition from Scarlet into Fire has Phil up a little more then he seems to be at other times, which is good because its not a long transition compared to years gone by. Uncle John's Band is one of the best I have heard live and it holds up here. I think its one of the top 5 post- Brent. The Dew is so slow to begin its seems like its gonna stop. I take it as they were really taking care of their business. Jerry's voice here sounds very good for "93". Brings back memories of a younger Garcia. This slow pace is upheld for the whole song but has a Jerry solo that just goes off until resuming the pace Jerry wanted. It's pretty neat. It's a classic Dew imo, especially since the Dead were heading towards the finish line. Sugar Mags also starts out of the gate slow coming off the Dew but it to begins to pick up pace which seemed to happen a lot on this night. The highlight here is Phil who comes in loud and clear and its here where the whole band is being played by the music. The ending is patiently jammed until exhausted and the crowd went nuts for this. It's a short and sweet SM's. The U.S. Blues is no throw away. Check out the Phil bombs as Phil ended up getting stronger as this show busted on. Vince's key work towards the end of U.S. Blues sounds like a piano ala Keith or Brent. Kinda wish he had used this style more.....
Again, best show of this your? Maybe. One of the best of the 90's? I think so. Also for those of you who don't like the new songs, there is only one here, SMR, and its hard to complain again this version so this is some good ole' fashion GD where it was rare to get a show without anything new, not that I minded. I'm a big fan of most new stuff except Eternity, Samba, and Childhoods End.

I was in one of the skyboxes too and from where I was sitting I couldn't get connected with the show either and spent more time gabbing and drinking beer
...
than listening to the music. What a disappointment especially after just listening to what I missed. The guys are on, Jerry is fluid and playing really well and everybody sounds focussed. I love Phil's bass solo after UJB. Well worth the stream.

I was at this show and actually sat in one of the skyboxes. Sound from up there was poor since the venue had terrible accoustics up high. With Dead tuning

their sound for lower level got a lot of reverb from that location.

cant explain what makes this show kinder than average. it just is.
the songs seem to have more feeling/substance to them - maybe that's it. rather than ... just going thru the motions, the band was really feeling the music. and yeah jerry's having a good night.
i agree that the dead had a good stretch in 93. the 93 vintage might be a bit underrated
ps - sugar mags is mellowly paced but does have an epic-ish ending. props to vince

Excellent show - The whole band was ON !!!!!!!! I was watching Jerry closely and he was totally into it! Same with the rest of the band. 'So Many Roads'
...
really affected Jerry that night - he was completely in his own world and looked rarely at the crowd during the tune and mostly looked to his right at Bobby as he was playing - no need for him to involve himself with anything else at the time - it was his personal moment - Bobby and the band knew it at the time - you could easily tell. Interesting watching all of this so close this time. By the way - 'Jackstraw' and 'Cassidy' ROCKED! Listen to the drums on Cassidy !!! ... One of my favorites from '93 !!! Definately get the Aud. tape for this one to really appreciate it. Was there in first row center!!! Not uncommon for me at the Cap Ctr. or Philly at he time - I knew the ticket manager for the Cap Ctr. One last thing - the 'Last Time' in the second set was PERFECT! Each band member was watching the other very, very carefully and in complete sync. I have noticed, again, that you need the Aud. Tape to really fully know how good this show really was. After all these years, this is one tape that I still keep a few copies around at all times - would take it with me in the event of a fire :-)

As a previous reviewer mentioned this source is crackly, and the source DAT probably had some digital dropout issues.
Highights: So Many Roads is by ... far the highest energy of the whole night. Jack Straw is pretty rippin'.
P.S. No offence intended, but the Sugar Mag's is, IMHO, nowhere close to being "of epic proportions" in any respect.

nice show with a nice overall feel. What stood out the most to me, was that Jerry nailed every lyric to a T. Even thru scarlet/fire, he knew exactly

where he was. Truely amazing :)

Don't judge this show by this SBD. I was there and this show rocked. This was the day after Phil's B-Day and the band was ON. The Jack Straw is blazing.
...
The jam soars to an incredible peak. Really, we need a good FOB to appear here because the crowd energy this night was exceptional. This is one of those shows where you either get it or you don't. The So Many Roads, Cassidy is exquisite. Phil is pumped all the way. Although the Scarlet>Fire is somewhat short, the peak during the Fire is awesome. This is one the best UJB's ever (with the awesome Phil Jam at the end). The best latter year U.S. Blues closer put the cap on a wonderful night just outside our nation's capital. I'll never forget it.

Wow! My first show and what a start for my new career as tourhead! :oP I had loved the dead for many many years, but a new girlfriend persuaded me to

live the experience. Jerry was back and looking good. Strong vocals throughout and a raging guitar to boot! I knew right away what Id be doing for the remaining spring - fall tours. Went to every other show I could get to until the end. One of my favorite Jack Straws of all time. The rest of the setlist speaks for itself. Kinda miss a bit of audience in this SBD version, but hey, its so slean! Of course, the girlfriend was a keeper too and we are happily married. Now our kids love the dead. Just sorry theyll never know what it was like to see Jerry do live what no one else can. Sorry Herring, youre good, but its just not the same.
