8/29 and 8/30 at Hult in '83 are great. The guy who wrote in 2009 about these shows has some good points, however I still loves the 70's too, but shit

man, now I'm into '83.

Agree with every aspect of Tripels post 9 years ago. Theres still a ton of 80s hate within the community and I'm one of the few people who praises Brent
...
Mydland for bringing this band back to life when their sound was getting stale. I love their sound during this period of time, It's pure Rock N' Roll and so badass. These guys are in their 40s at this point and they're still kicking ass, sticking it to the man. It's a dark time but the music shows it through amazing R&R that you can't help but love.

After taking the time to download a SBD source of this show, and being very disappointed by the cuts and edits it contains, listening to this is a JOY!
...
It sounds MUCH better than the SBD, so THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS for now, for this AUD (until Charlie Miller either finds a SBD, or remasters this source... hint : ). Very worthy download. To get the FLAC files "all at once" use Firefox web browser (you should be doing that right now anyway!!!), install the add-on "DownloadThemALL!!!" and set the filter to "audio", uncheck all files except FLAC, create a directory on your computer, then download. Takes a couple minutes with a fast connection.

Washed out bass or not, this is still better than the thin, scratchy SBD that circulates. Not much SBD happiness post Betty and pre-84 or -85. :-(

Warning -- tape hiss and washed out bass response. Not for those who like their Dead loud and clear.

The Dead were rock and roll pirates. Come to your town, drink your beer, smoke your stash, indulge your women... The fact that they were followed around

by alot of hippie love people is kind of comical to me. I like this band for the seedy underbelly of its' music, and this is the perfect era and year to hear it. Every AUD from this late summer of 83 tour is a must.

having only started seeing shows in '83, but to me this was the best Dead era -- better even than the 70s shows most find so sacred. To me this era of

Dead rocked so much harder than the 70s -- Jerry's tone was so much nastier, Bob's screeching (& playing) was most intense, I believe Phil has moved to the mobius 6-string, and Brent's hammond playing was so fat and hard-core. And of course they still had the sweetness on the lighter tunes, with arguably more depth as they were at the heights of their professional powers while the dragon loomed largest...
IMO, much of the 70s by comparison sounds like bird-like plucking from Jerry, the ho-hum piano from Keith and intolerable catterwalling from Donna.
Maybe it was the depths of the drug-years, or improved sound system and equipment ...but the tones were deeper and heavier. Sacriledge, perhaps...but my $.02

Wow. Download for the thunderous sound of Phil's bass throttling your skull.
