cool 2nd set opener while bobby's equipment fixed and then a tour de force China>Rider, Playin' which is strongest part of already strong show. Truckin' and Spoonful are also great as is the Around and JBG rockers. As others note this aud takes you into the small room -- and went back to listen to China>Rider three times is a row -- LOUD -- for effect.

There is something a little passive aggressive about the way Brent introduced new ideas in that jam before drums after Jerry, then Phil, and perhaps Bobby have already walked off. And there is something equally passive aggressive about the way that they let that happen for a while and then shut it down. 1983's Maybe You Know had a very short life in that slot until, it appears, someone said, "nope, we aren't going to play that one." There is, perhaps, a little peek into Brent's place in the band - the perfect foil to Jerry's guitar work, probably more in line with Jerry's vision than any other keyboard player, and the desire to contribute beyond that role - a contribution that never quite fits with that same vision.

Oh yeah, and, Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie followed by Hell In a Bucket? I mean really Bob, you had to have the last word and that was the best you could come up with?

mistakes,? what mistakes. the times the band goofed often made the best of times.ive had this tape for years and the feeling and energy just stoke me up!you can hear the "AIR" in the room.,boards shmords!lets hear the party! i just love this stuff!this is what you call "good ole Grateful Dead!" i do like a good board,especially for space,but its important to hear the audience,and the "AIR"of the gig. -thats what was going on there.of course, no tape can capture Phils B string which was like earthquakes!and i think helped to crack the hapless concrete floor in oakland during TRUCKIN' !oh man i miss this stuff!knock out all the windows and kick down all the doors!

Slippery and gooey. Great show. Strong second set. Nice recording with good presence and participation by the audience.

This was the first "Dont Need Love" ever played. Sources I've read say Jerry and Phil had left the stage. I just wonder why. Nonetheless, long live the dead.

This is a decent AUD, but I do wish there was an SBD of this show. Crisper sound would really bring out some of the gems in this show. I can tell there's a lot of good material in it nonetheless. First set rocks from start to finish: top 10 CC Rider and great loser. The second set begins with an interesting choice (sans bobby and brent), Babe It Ain't No Lie. Wonderful song, but I prefer it when Jerry performs it with John Kahn. Hell in the Bucket starts set two off with good energy which continues with China>Rider and Playin'. Don't Need Love seems out of place. Post-space is filled with some interesting transitions, particularly the Wharf>Truckin', but I started to lose interest. Didn't seem like they could match the energy of the first set>first 1/2 of set 2. 3.5 stars rounded up to the 4 it would be if this were an SBD.

The first set isn't continuous, the audience is cut out between songs. Drums is also for the most part missing in the second set. O.K. performance, there are some train wrecks-Hell In A Bucket for one.

This show is great, I likey a lot. Touch of Grey is coolio, you can see how the song started in the begining. I love how the show went into that 70's acid jam shit. Really dig it.

What a treat, Jerry busted out Aint no lie. Nice aud. It's funny, Jerry mentions he's having difficulties with his guitar and the crowd cheers. You gotta love em'. I would have to say this run 3/28 to 4/1 at in Marin is one of the hottest and most fun to listen to. Its been one of my favorites for the longest time. The Dead is rollin hard through these Small cozy venues same with the Hult Center spring 84' shows. Same with Oct run in Marin hot stuff great times Iam sure. Killer intimate shows in early-mid 80's what more could you want. That's the best.I definetly wish I attended these shows. Jerry sounds awesome on "Aint No Lie" love that song. His little hypnotic guitar lines and Brent's marblizing keyboarding . Anybody who went I would love to hear what what going down at these Marin shows in 84.
Nice spatial sounding aud. recording puts you right there or the band in your living room. Which ever you prefer.

Nice review, Those were the shows to be at you were very lucky. Marin seats about 2086 people(warfield 2200) Could you get any more intimate and cozy with the Grateful Dead . first shows of spring tour 1984 literally in Jerry's back yard.

I was at all four shows on this run. 3/28 was the first show of the year. It should be noted that these were "special shows". First, even in '84 this was the smallest place they played by far, and in their home town (e.g they parked in the lot and you could go up and talk to band members after the show). Second, these were Rex Foundation benefits for which the ticket price was the princely sum of $25/show, or about double the going rate at that time. You could see the effort to put on a show for old friends and neighbors at these 4 benefits, e.g. the Oh Babe, Walkin the Dog, big Dew, etc. The other reviews are slightly off regarding the Oh Babe. The whole band took the stage at the beginning of the 2d set. What Jerry said was words to the effect that "Bobby's having a little trouble with his guitar" He wasn't quite up to the mike, so you barely hear the first word - It was Not Jerry's guitar. Weir's gear wasn't working, so instead of leaving or standing around any longer, Garcia broke into the Oh Babe to pass the time. (you can hear squawking noises during it from Weir). The Hell in a Bucket was an "I'm baaack" from Weir - Then the "normal" 2d set kicked off.

My taper buddy was at this show and he says Bobby wasn't onstage for Ain't No Lie. No s**t.
Back then of course, Iko was still Iko ...

This show sounds great. Does anyone have AUDs of the other nights of this run? Especially 3/31 and 4/1? That would be great!
