Without a doubt, the weakest of all the shows I saw in Hartford between 1974 and 1990. But, still a decent little show. Just not a lot of rock 'n roll-
...
-that was the 4/3/86 show. A couple little oddities, as noticed.... First set Crazy Fingers. The last Day Job- -a tune I started to miss when the Boys began adding Vince tunes to the rotation!!! And, the Box of Rain encore!!! Leaving the Civic Center that night I commented to my youngest brother [up from NJ for the show] that I felt like I'd just played a very mediocre round of golf, but that I'd be back because I eagled the 18th....
All these years later, a very listenable show. Other than the Box of Rain encore, a very predictable/not so special song selection. But no major mis-fires. Just missing the kick of a Scarlet/Fire or an Eyes or a Goin'Down the Road.....
So 27 years later, I'm going to quit bitching about this show and put it back in my show rotation. Because at the end of the day, there is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.... never was, and never will be.... and that alone makes this and every show special. R.I.P. Jerry G!!

Fingers in the first set and last day Job. Box encore has people excited. Many other shows from the east coast tour i would try before this puppy

This was my third show, after seeing two in '85. '86 was definitely a step down from '85, but this one had it's moments. Crazy Fingers in the first set
...
was something I'd never encounter again. This was my first Looks Like Rain, and was definitely the best one I ever heard in person - Weir goes nuts on the echoey vocals and Jerry blows doors. The little improv jam after Smokestack was unique and pretty. The Box of Rain encore was a first for many and left us all smiling. Note Phil's "Thank you all, very kind" sign-off after it ends. In the 30+ shows I ended up seeing, that's the only time anybody but Bobby said goodnight. Hartford shows almost always had something special and this one was no exception.
