Still cant believe I may listen to a show of the Dead, without interruption with such great quality. Its like having a time machine. I was able to record
...
this on a DVD, no video, just all the sound in all its sweet glory. The only hiccup occurs inbetween songs, pretty unnoticable, the tape hiss is a nice reminder of days gone by and adds a bit of warmth to the recording. The mix is very friendly. The show itself sounds magical, I always try to pick out each part and then hear them all at once. Sublime. Drums and space has great feeling. Just happy to add to the collection. So far on this DVD, this is the forth show of 1980 starting jan 13 continuing to this show on the 8th of May. Im going to have to really scrub my feet when Im done with this one.
Friend, High Time, Ramble On Rose, Stella Blue and U.S. Blues are highlights. Committed jam post-drums despite set list, within a show that was never dull. Can't
...
believe they released 5/7 over this.

UJB>Estimated>Eyes!!!
The first set is a lot of fun here, not rote and boring like way too many first sets. Lazy>Supplication is always fun, and Sailor>Saint is one of
...
the best first set closers in general. The second set starts strong and jazzy with UJB>Estimated>Eyes. You might think for a moment that you traveled back in time to 1974. The post-space is good at first (nice Stella), but ends with some of my least favorite tunes, A&A, JBG, and USBlues.

This is one crispy SBD. The levels are pretty much spot on. And theboys are in great form. Really wish there was one like this for the show two nights

later. Mexicali was great, how often does that tune actually stand stand out. Thanks to Bob here it does. The Lost Sailor->Saint if Circumstance is a very tight rendition. The eyes was very nice but wasn't taken very far. The super star is the short but rocked Truckin'->Stella Blue...It is just right. Pick it up. Sound-5 Playing-4

OVERLOOKED GEM!!!
What a difference 8 months makes. The show at the same venue the year before was the lowpoint of my Live Dead experience and this was one of the highpoints.
...
Just shows to go you that the venue didn't make much difference in the quality of shows. This show is my personal favorite from 1980. I attended every show in this tour, and in my opinion, this show is far superior to the Nassau shows that subsequently became the "Dead at Nassau" release. Of all the shows I saw (200+ from 1978-86) this ranks as one of the top 5, right behind the cape cod shows and 12/31/81, and up there with Frost 82s. The songlist is nice, not exceptional, but the playing is A+ for the whole show. My favorite Ramble On Rose of all time. The most exceptional part of this show is Uncle john's through drums. In my opinion this is the best Uncle I've seen or heard. Check out the lead break, sweetly melodic, and it sticks to a very sweet theme, no wasted notes. Hornsby was quoted as saying that the Dead's philosophy was " why play one note when 5 will do fine". This is one of those times where Jerry strayed from that philosophy, and it is exquisite. The transition from Prophet to Eyes is also beautifully phrased.Check Out the truckin >> Stella blue, very sweet and sad. Every song/jam here is very good to exceptional. I believe this is an overlooked gem, and will be a welcome addition to anybody's collection

listen to the eyes but the groove doesn't hit me during most of the show. Fotd is slow, ujb has a rather non harmonic Jerry solo. thankyou archive.org but there are better shows. robert

SB at last
This was my 3rd show & the audience copy I have just didn't do this show justice. It is great to finally have a good soundboard copy of this show.
...
This was a very mellow laid back show to me. Maybe because of the way the place is laid out. You walk in at ground level & you are at the top of the stands & have to walk down to get to the floor. The sound is awesome on this recording. The song selection to me at the time was one mind blowing tune to the next. Highlight was High Time...A smoking Lazy Lightning into Sup.
