Love it or hate it, this show certainly has that north Jersey, New York electricity to it.
Nothing too deep or trippy here, just a straight out good time ... show.
Nice FOTD.

broke the cardinal sin of the website. I burned to cd based only on the setlist. Coming on the heels of Hartford and Worcester gems I downloaded based
...
on the epic setlists. Disappointing is the best term to describe. Not bad, but I can't put my finger on why this isn't better. It really should be. I just don't break it out very much. Others may dig.

this show isn't bad... doesn't shine, but isn't terrible.... dew is good, but i think 3-30-88 imho is the best dew of all times... close 2nds are 2-24-74,
...
and 94 nassau.... check those out and let me know what you think...

Subject: No question in anyone's mind, which of the two nights is a better show?
1st Set: For some reason, this recording makes the band sound more muscular. Therefore, each song sounds more full-bodied than usual.
Lesh's spot-on ... bass adds some meat behind this above-average "Touch." Put on your dancin' shoes as we now reside in "Minglewood." A solid, longer than average version. "FOTD" is well-tole but nothing overly dramatic. Hey, thanks Bobby, this is a radio broadcast :) "BIODTL" is standard, and so is "Stagger," but they're both a pleasure to listen to. "Mama"'s got Jerry doin' his country plucking for us. "River" flows as the bird normally flies. "West LA"'s solid as well. "Hell" is a funny story because Bobby dislikes how it starts and it takes the bad about 45 seconds of garage fuzzback to straighten itself out. Both "Hell" and "Ease" flow joyously play out my speakers.
2nd Set: Didn't they just play "Box" Saturday night? This version is well-intentioned but blah. The fun picks up with a short but sloshy "Miracle." Of course we Should segue right into an, honestly, average "Bertha." "Ship of Fools" is patiently conveyed, but kinda a snoozer. "Man Smart" is decent, nothing more as we careen into "Drums/Space." "Space" marches more than usual, and the whole sequence, despite almost falling into the "Wharf" but pulls out. A few minutes later they get greedy with "Gimme" that's halfwaqy decent. Another "Morning," (like 'Box' from Saturday) but this one percolates and allows its lava to be sprung forth. Bobby, thank you for softly growling...(live broadcast and all) "Throwing" is well done, but not as strong as 4/3. Perhaps a 'Lovelight' would have a greater shining star...as it is "NFA" is better than 4/3. It's slinkier and more communal.
We encore with "Quinn" which will surely provide the concert-goers with a line they'll repeat all the way back home.
Way better than 4/6/87 This is like a 3 1/2 and that night was a 2 1/2. Is it transcendent and worthy of 4 stars, not quite...

As a sophomore in high school, I didn't realize how lucky I was to be 15th row at my first show. It was also the only time I ever saw Jerry in red (good
...
show ahead). This show fired on all cylinders; they really got fired up for In the Dark and were just starting to get Touch of Grey, etc. into heavy rotation.

Phil's pretty funny here...the CA native taking the piss out of the Jerseyites...and I was among them. Classic. Jerry hardly able to control laughter

This is the kinda show that reminds one that the Dead got their start as a "party" band. It was just a fun show...not the kind of thing that sends chills down your spine (we've all had those nights), even though the Dew is very good...but really hot playing throughout, super high energy and rocking tune selection...great.
I've said it before...I've always thought that '87 is vintage.
Good sound, not great...but sufficient to get the idea across for this type of night.

I've had this on tape for years and the first set ranks up with my favorites of the 80's. The sound quality is a little tinny and hissy (typical of radio

broadcasts), but i'm guessing it sounds better than the aud, judging by those reviews. The first set is a blast, I just finished listening and had forgotten how great the Touch of Grey is. It had me grinning from ear to ear and screaming " I will get byyyyyyyyyy" while driving down the road. They say the dead are like black licorice, either you love it or hate it. If this Touch of Grey doesn't touch you somehow, you should probably give up on the dead. The energy continues into into Minglewood and beyond. This first set contains my favorite versions of Stagger Lee and West LA fadeaway. Jerry's voice is a little ragged and it seems he is making up for it with inspired and energetic playing. Hell in A Bucket starts with a flub and Bobby makes the band start over. Set 2 has a nice Box of Rain and I love the Mighty Quinn encore, but set 1 is the gem in my opinion.
