OK sports fans, check your lists and see what Jerry was doing on 4/10 at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, after a great show in Rochester on 4/9.
...
An awesome night of TWO SHOWS SOLO ACOUSTIC!! Ouch! I'm sure that he never thought twice about doing that again as he always played at least with John Kahn after that. Anyhow this show, while not one of the best of the tour, is still pretty good.

I was 15 and only knew some of their songs. I did know Half-Step and wouldn't you know it, Jerry flubs the first line of my entire Grateful Dead career!!!!
...
A few other songs I knew, namely Not Fade and Around from the Stones and I also knew Samson as "If I had my Way" from Peter, Paul and Mary. I never knew the Dead did it back then and man was it SMOKING!!! I also remember Brent lighting my ears on fire with his extended high organ note in Around. Listening to the show over the years (since I had the tape) and comparing it to many others, it wasn't a particularly hot few hours. Post space was tame, especially BP. Still, the first show is also special and I will never forget it.

Listenability is an issue during both sets' openers, as the tapers fumble with the equipment and raise the stand. But after that things improve greatly.
...
Lyrics get blown alot (HalfStep and Truckin esp.) but Jerry tries to compensate by giving his guitar solos a little extra something (case in point: the end of HalfStep) Brent put in a good effort lyrically by scat-singing during Rooster, and backing up Bobby during the chorus of He's Gone.
Recording: 2, performance: 3, avg. down to 2, since this show was overrated earlier.

But what really helps this average show a lot is the quality of this 9th row-center recording. Yes, there are some bumps and bruises here and there, but
...
overall, its a very listenable AUD. The Good Lovin' and Don't Ease finish get me over the limp Black Peter and R&R.

Average 5* for this turkey? Perhaps the worst 2nd set I ever saw them do. The band almost quit (and actually Brent did) during Good Lovin'. Lackluster
...
at best, pathetic at worst. Decent Half Step > Frankins, and all downhill from there.
The next night blew this Great Easter Calamnity away.

What a great show, thanks to Mr. Wise for sharing the music. Shaky start on 1/2 Step but strong finish in Franklin's. El Paso is right on and Althea was
...
always a gem in 82. Let it Grow smokes to end the set. The whole 2nd set sparkles especially Never Trust A Woman evrything post Space just shines. Dough Knees is short and sweet. Sound is very good.
