Subject: Grateful Dead 1982

The concert was a little fuzzy as my sister was married the night before the show and I think I was still up from that. This recording sure brings back memories and the pictures! I think I can spot me and my friends in one photo. Great show, high times. FUN!

Subject: Photos of this concert

Hi Folks, I was at both Dead shows ('82 and '83) at Santa Fe Downs. My mother, Anne Van Arsdall Poore, took the photos for the Los Alamos Monitor, I think. I wasn't really that into the Dead, but went along just for fun, with my Mom and Uncle and brother. Anyhow, enjoy the shots!

Subject: The wine ain't sweeter..The grass ain't greener

To be honest I usually skip right to the SBDs when I'm on Archive..my brother picked this show out and posted in a group we both belong to..He likes to dig through the AUDs and I respect his taste in GD music! I gave this a good listen and enjoyed it very much.You get a whole different feel for the music..it's gritty and in your face! pure uncut DEAD..I LIKEY A LOT!! Thanx to my brother Kevin for making me listen outside the box!! so please GIVE IT A WHIRL!! Forever Grateful>Forever Dead!!!!!!

Subject: Killer sound

This is a killer sounding Aud. I am surprised that there are no SBDs. Not that it matters since I missed the boat on having a connection that would support it when you could download them.

This is an amazing show. I had this source - 2nd set only for MANY years and it always ended up in the batch that went on tour. It was a favorite for after the show b/c no matter how hot the show, this one could usually take you 'there' again afterwards. Outstanding versions of all especially Althea, Let it Grow and just about everything in the 2nd set.

Kudos to whoever taped this one. Puts you right there. A really nice mix of Aud. in it. I will warn the listener that there is a BRUTAL cut/gap in Althea around 7:00. Better to know about this from the get-go. I was heavily into it when the rug was pulled out from under me. No big but just sayin'...

Subject: One for the books

I think this show was a "you had to be there show" like so many other classics but the rainbow, the rain, Phil's sombreero hat, the roses at the opener, the campground,front and jerry doesn't get any better. Oh I forgot the setlist which keep just kept going and going. It was powerful I think the China Doll really came through best of all. Music opener with all the roses or tulips being thrown on stage into they love each other to start getting things into gear. THen the China/rider set closer I think that was after it rained? Then the coup de gras Saturday Night Cold Rain encore. You had to be there!!!!

Subject: My 1st Show

This was my First show and I can remember as clear as if it was a hour ago when the rain stopped and that Beautiful Rainbow came over the stage and I was REALLY Tripping pretty well and I thought of how Lucky I was to be experiencing this while just across the Hwy. their were all those people in The N.M.State Prison. It hurt and made me realize how one thing could overlap with another. I continued to travel and see as many shows as I could and have seen them on both East and west coast but nothing compares to my 1st . I am still trying to find a original shirt that does not cost an arm and a leg. If anyone has or knows where I can get one I would be in your honor and debt. Peace to all and Thank you .

Subject: WE STOPPED OVER IN SANTA FE

What a great show, and the sound is great as well.. This was the day that The Who, and Jethro Tull were playing at Folsom Field at CU in Boulder (my hometown at the time), and half of Boulder showed up in Santa Fe instead!!! The first set was just epic and the second set was even better. 11 songs in the second set, 6 after the drums!!! Brent added a special Santa Fe verse to Never Trust a Woman. This was the 10TH Throwing stones in a row, they would eventually reach 12 consecutive shows. After drums is awesome, it was equal to 2 seperate shows of after drums, Throwing, wheel, GDTRFB, Other one, wharf Rat, Good Love. Just a great Fall day in Santa Fe.

Subject: 26 years ago today, one of the best!

26 years ago, right about this time of the afternoon, we were all basking in the late afternoon low-angle sun on the plateau south of town. The Grateful Dead were playing one incredibly fine show. We were all happy, smiles everywhere. One of the best shows of 1982, and one of the best shows of the early 80s.

Listening to it today I couldn't be happier that I made the sacrifices I did back them to be on the road seeing GD shows. Cause every now and then one like this happened and it kept you going forward in your life, inspired by positive energy and pure joy.

everyone was stoked since the dead were finally playing in OUR backyard.
details fuzzy (surprise!) of this and '83 downs shows but it all runs together.

an old guy in crowd wearing a fedora and two smears of warpaint on his face. i swore it was kesey. 82

wavy gravy's crew digging firepit holes and providing old lumber to burn at night. 83

spending the night freezing ass since there was no room to sleep in the terrapin trailways bus that we rode in on. me and gf took turns sleeping on top of each other to get off the cold ground.next morning found out some guy with a u-haul moving van had passed out dozens of moving blankets right after we laid down to sleep. 83

worked at bakery cafe in albuquerque, brought a special order chocolate cake for some guy. couldn't find him so sold phat slices for a couple of bucks to the hungry and stoned. 83?

someone suggested but never did change the white rocks outside that spelled "the downs" to the "the dead". would've been easy as hell. lazy hippies.

Subject: excellent recording

Although it exhibits a few tech glitches, this is just an excellent recording of a really fun show. This recording has the same outdoor vibe that Manor Downs (7/31/82) has; mellow but fantastic energy throughout the performance; something about racetracks I guess. The show has some real gems; listen to minute 3:00 - 4:00 during the space segment, into Throwing Stones. It is absolutely sublime Jerry, with Bob or Brent throwing in a little slide note over and over; very cool; Then into GDTRFB-Wheel_Other One-Wharf Rat-Good Lovin; whew, I'm exhasuted listening to this. Phil just ROARS into The Other One, igniting the rest of the guys into a frenzy, an excellent version. Real nice sound too. A must have by all means.

Subject: Must check in on this one

This show is significant in that the boys were never the same after this show. Garcia was "nobody home" at the year end Oakland shows having finally fallen prey to the Persian. The band over-compensated for his lack of focus for the next two years. At this show, Jerry's voice was strong and the band was clearly pumped to play in Sante Fe. Significant show in Dead history.

one of my first boot tapes. always loved this one.very hot for a early 80's.way underated, even in the old tape trading days nobody ever had this on thier tapelists. i always wondered why this show was not more popular! GREAT 1st set with (LOCAL COLOR TUNES)coming after candyman. 2nd even better. by the way jerry fans, the man sounds great after the first verse of 1/2 step (minor sound adjustment)& i actually think there is smoke bioling off his guitar for most of the show. the band really shines on this one! one of those gems i find myself digging out of my collection quite often. well recorded aud.

Subject: Missed the first time around...not the next infinity!

At 16 years old in Albuquerque, my friends were more turned on to the Grateful Dead than I was, since, as a teenager, I liked punk rock. I spat a haughty "pshaw" at the mention of a trip to Santa Fe to catch the "immortal Dead" so I missed what was in store....until I turned on to the GD in college and, lo and behold, the Downs at Santa Fe was my first ever bootleg tape. I've internalized all of it since, except, of course, those juicy d/s bits that the tape, bless its heart, was too small to contain. Would that my mind had been ready so that I could have been there!
