The Grateful Dead
I would have to agree wow it looks like rain. made the big trek from PVD through MSY for fest and on to Sacramento for my first California shows. This

one is a treat. Noone ever got through this and I apologize but Garcia gave it his all-- good or bad or whatever.

The fact is, Garcia's not playing all that well. When he was, it didn't matter what Vinny's crumby digital pianos sounded like. Still, I'll never understand
...
why they ditched the Hammond. Best sound ever.

1st time I saw a full run
In hindsight, I still love it. One show was a miracle, also. This was, though, the 1st show after Bruce's tenure--which is tough for most critics. Man,
...
I wish he were still with them! I remember the whole show but mostly I recall that when Vinnie sang Baba O'Riely. It was clear that he was finally truly IN the band. The opening acts were tremendous-- esp the day Grisman played.
-Looks Like Rain is absolutely beautiful!!!! -Best Long Way to Go--sure, most of you don't care, but I like when Welnick actually sounds good, and here he does. -Terrapin and Black Peter are great. -First Baba/Tomorrow and very well done! -mistakes? Why sweat the small stuff? The 5 stars are for the quality of the recording. Of corse there are better shows. Duh?
I can't see how anyone can rate this show five stars because of Vince and "Way to go Home". Seriously man, I don't mean to be disrespectful, but put a
...
little thought into this. If this show is five stars, what are the classic shows from 68 through 77 worth? Five stars is the best, no? Do people really think that Vince's shrill Casio keyboard sound and original songs represent the absolute pinnacle of the Dead's live performances? And I am sorry, but saying its your "opinion" is a cop out. Not to mention that it demonstrates very little appreciation for anything the Dead created before Vince joined up, which is hard to fathom if one claims to like the Grateful Dead. I just can't buy it, man. Its one thing to say you had a great time at the show, but that doesn't mean the show is at the same level of the most widely acknowledged great shows of the band's 30 year run. This is a good show, the first set is nice, the encores were different and exciting, but I can't let it go unsaid that "not every show was a five star show". Its ok to say a Dead show is "average"... shit, I would take an "average" Dead show over any other band's best performance any day of the week.

Cookin' with Vince
I think that the boys were trying out the new (at that time) earpiece monitors and still getting to know the communication system with the soundboard;

I think Bobby said "More Vince" during Cold Rain and Snow, requesting more of Vince in his earbud monitor. This was a smokin' show; I think that Jerry was on the whole show, myself along with the rest of the boys, perhaps buoyed by Vince's energy as he was suitably pumped with "Way to Go Home" solo and break out of Baba/Tomorrow. Althea was indeed awesome as was Black Peter with Jerry adding some nice vocal twists. I still remember the crowd going bonkers when the Encore began and we recognized the song, trying to remember the titles of Baba and Tomorrow Never Knows.

chill show
I had a good time at this show. it did feel like they were trying to build up to something that never materialized in the second set. but what did materialize
...
was subtlety. Now that I listen to it again I like it a lot more because it is just plain different then most of the best shows ever that seem to have an overflow of hyper energy. This show is chill. Listen to it and you might feel chill too.

Yin and Yang
I've been looking for this show. One of the first tapes i ever got. The first set is absolutely SMOKIN!!! One of the best Althea's I've heard. Jerry
...
is all over it! His voice is on, licks are on...everything seems great! then, Jerry hits bottom though and really struggles through the latter half of the show. ***Phil is on the whole night though***
