Notes
This is the original mix of Aoxomoxoa, which was released commercially between June 1969 and late 1971.
In September, 1971, Jerry Garcia did a major remix of the entire album, eliminating a considerable amount
of the backing material and trimming the beginning and end of a few songs. The LPs, cassettes, and CDs
available commercially since that time contain the remix. There appear to be no plans to commercially release
this original mix, so it is being made available to the broader community.
To sustain the ethical integrity of this process, please do not download these files unless you are already in
possession of a commercial release of Aoxomoxoa and would like to compare it with the original mix.
The LP copy from which this was derived is in VG condition, and the analog equipment used to extract the
sound from the grooves is near state of the art. There is some minor surface noise audible in the quietest passages,
but not obtrusive even then, and almost no tracking distortion.

Subject: Both Mixes for 50th Anniversary Release?
I just discovered this mix on the archive and enjoyed listening to the differences between both mixes. I do like the remix a bit better, but both are worth listening to.
The original mix copy here contains a couple of skips/pops at the end of China Cat from the LP it was recorded from. Not a complaint, just a note and thanks!
Subject: Not recorded on 6/20/69
It's fun to hear the original Aoxomoxoa mix again though, which was so out there Garcia must have wanted to tighten it up and clean it out. I have a feeling though that this original mix more accurately depicts the period in all its insane glory. Check out the intro to China Cat and imagine the boys listening and going "I'm good with that, you guys?" "Sure, sounds great to me, hahahaha""

It's also nice to have formal, conclusive evidence that "njpg" doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. I could infer that pretty easily from other reviews but now we know for sure.

2. As with nearly every "outtake" in existence that's ever been done by anybody, the reason it wasn't ... what was put on the original release is that it wasn't good enough. It sounds sloppy and unfinished, and I actually doubt your statement that this was ever released as an album in this form. You can actually hear the lyrics on the remixed version, for instance.

I prefer this original mix to the 71 remix; it's great to have this copy for streaming. The original version of "What's Become of the Baby" is one of the highlights but I'm also very partial to the Cosmic Charlie and Doin That Rag.
The Seth man has a nice review of the original mix on Julian Cope's Head Heritage blog:

Archive discussion here: https://archive.org/post/556727/aoxomoxoa-original-mix-where
That said, I still prefer the studio outtakes to either version of the album: https://archive.org/details/gd69-xx-xx.sbd.dodd.16760.sbeok.shnf (Note: as of March 2015, the outtake version of What's Become at the Baby appearing at this link is still cocked up, as noted in the comments)
