The Band started with Jack and never looked back, We Rambled, sang with a Bird, got wet from Rain Then went out on northbound train, Played in a band, Threw some stones, and Trucked down the Road and saw Peter and Mags we left the Palace awestruck and begin our journey home from a wonderful show

They Had Been Doing This Fairly Regularly. This Would Be At Least The Third Time On This Tour That The Playin' Phrase Kept Comin' Around. If You're Gonna Drop Those Breadcrumbs. You Gotta Remember Where You Were When You Dropped.
A Good Show. The Band Was Beginning To Tire. You Can Here It In Jerry's Voice. The Music Seemed To Be Swallowed By The Huge Place. Sitting Near The Back After The Break I Remember Seeing The Dead's Semi's Pulled Up Alongside The Stage. They Looked So Small. The Place Dwarfed 'em. Like Mini Matchbox Cars. And Who Can Forget Being Blown Out The Doors By The Pressureized Air Inside The Dome. Wheee...That Was Fun.

Kind of a funny transition from Iko to Truckin'. Feels a little like Jerry really wanted to play Iko coming out of space but had no real plan thereafter.
...
Of course they found their way to the typical back half of the 2nd set stuff and played it out.

This was first show and introduction to the Dead Head scene. My roommate convinced me to go and we drove to Syracuse from the campus of SUNY Geneseo.
...
I have since attended many shows and listened to far more than that but this one will always have a special place in my heart. What was really weird was coming down from the show (and other chemicals) the following morning...my roommate and sat on a bench in downtown Geneseo to watch the annual "hunt" (folks on horses with their dogs)...bizzare

I used to have an audience of this show and played it often. The first set really has some remarkable music. The open pairing of Jack Straw and FOTD

is outstanding. Brent really goes off on his electric piano too. CC Rider is always fun to listen to and they follow it up with a inspired Ramble On Rose.Ok, Bobby whimps out churring out Minglewood but is still smokes.
The Bird Song starts up really good but kinda ends abruptly but then immediatly goes into a stunning LL Rain followed by an high energy China> Rider. This was Phil's last long tour playing the four string and in the tranistions he plays some amazing stuff. The ending jam is simply stunning.
Set two starts off with a nice surprise with Brent delivering a passionate reading of Far From Me.This becomes the launching pad for a majectic PITB> Crazy Fingers> T-Stones suite.
The T Stones is aliitle rough since they only broke it out a week earlier. The drums are quite good too.
The post space is a extremely well played tour de force, you even get the sex change verse in Truckin'.Jerry's taking of a nice double with the GDTRFB>Black Peter is an easy hight light of the night. Sugar Magnolia features Phil dropping some massive bombs.Jerry sends everyone on their ways with a sweet Brokedown

Ah, what a show. After the warm up, with an unusual Brent taking the opening tune, then...Launch-let fly, off we go!!!
The Playing in the Band was as ... perfect as they get, with the addition of a rare Crazy fingers in the middle it is all quite... sublime.
The Aiko was epic, of course, but it almost wasn't: Weir was leading it into Women Are Smarter, when suddenly Jerry rushed up to the mic and said, with a big grin, and "Hey Now!"
Somehow or other I was in the 12th row, so it was all visible up close, the band's interpersonal dance.
Note it was a loooong show, more than most in that period, 1982 and onward, where one heard usually 8, maybe 9 songs, plus encore

This was a very good one. Sound qual. on tape is very nice. I was at all of the SU shows and had a copy of this board only a couple wks. after. Been listening

to it ever since. I'll never forget the completely confused, totally puzzled look on two of the cops/security guards faces up in the hall way during the show as they surveyed a totally crazy illicit chemical party scene they couldn't have done anything about if their lives had depended on it. I've always sort of hoped to see this as a DP. Best Far From Me. Beautiful Crazy Fingers. Great 1st set too. Sort of a "greatest hits" show. By the way, it was the next yr. at the Dome that the Band (without Robbie) opened.

This was the last show of the Fall '82 East Coast tour and the band pulled off a nice one to end the festivities. The Birdsong, Rain and China>Rider
...
in the first set were all solid performances as were the Crazy Fingers and Playing in Set 2.
This was the Dead's first show at the Carrier Dome having moved from the Onadaga War Memorial and it was a madhouse on the floor. However, from the vantage point of 23 years later and through an excellent sounding SBD, the show seems much more managable than it did at the time.
This may not be the best show of the tour, but it is well played and the quality of this recording is excellent. This one is a keeper.

nite it was fine.lots of fun before and after around the dome. the sound is good on the sbd and a nice set list fun show . i cant believe it been 25 years. to be young again!!!

this show that I asked more experienced peeps about the deads future schedule. I was told that they always tour the northeast during college break. I knew at that time I was going even if it was alone. I ended up going to Hampton, Morgontown, Binghampton, Rochester, and both New Haven shows in Spring 83. I was like 10th row center on the floor for this one at the Carrier Dome. I still remember when Phil said its Bobs 5th wedding anniversary and some girl came out and kissed him on the mouth. At that time I bought it because I was 18 and knew nothing about the band personally. When I found out that Bob wasnt married and this was all BS it made me smile. Definitely the show that made me turn the corner. :) Good memories!

the band. 82-early 84, then '87 til brent's death were phenomenal.
ok, now that i've said that, this sound is really good (not perfect) and the show rocks. Far From Me is great...FOTD too. Then they get down to it...
also, crazy fingers. while not a break out, this is only the 6th time they's played it since '76. it's pretty good too. this is a song that got much better in the eightys...

What a nice little show. Yes I went and in spite of terrible sound inside the dome; as usual the boys rose above the challenge. Remember, this show was

one of the last to feature China>Rider in the first set. And that was after a mind blowing Birdsong... Remember they used to use the 1st set to "warm up" and "fly" just a little, before getting down to business in the 2nd set. Take a listen to Iko Iko as well. This came after drumz and was still heavily influenced by the whole "Egyptian" mode the band was beginning to move away from. The Iko is slow and spacy. Soon after, it became the bouncy version most people associate with the song. At the time as well, Iko was not in the "regular" rotation so it was always a treat. FYI, listen to the Throwing Stones. It is a very early version, and the boys still enjoyed the jam section very much. Ahh for the days of a "new" Bobby or a "new" Jerry song!

Woke up in the middle of the night and heard friend of the devil and thought it was a garcia band cd that was playing. I got my bearings and realized it

wasn't, but its a great version. Definately reccomend getting this one. Always love the end of looks like rain when bobby goes nuts. Black peter and brokedown bring it all together. The hiss really isnt bad and doesnt take away from anything. Run and see!

the great thing about the dead was and is they had something for just about any frame of mind you might be in. sometimes I'm in the mood for the psychedelic/blues

juggernaut of the late sixties, sometimes I love the expansive jazz explorations of '73 and '74, or sometimes it's the succinct tightness of '89 and '90 with Jerry's soaring, beautiful guitar tones of the time. and sometimes I have no expectations, don't need to hear the best, the biggest, or most anything, sometimes I just want to hear the boys playing and clearly having fun doing it. this is that type of show. i had the second set of this on cassette way back when had a hankering for just this sort of show so i dl'd it and put in on the ol' Ipod and gave it a listen while shoveling snow in bitter cold today. around '82, the dead had largely been forgotten by the mainstream or considered irrelevant. they didn't care. they were playing for the core and for themselves, playing for fun before all the weight of unexpected and huge success would come down on them later on in the decade. there's a tiny amount of hiss to the recording but it doesn't detract. just listen to bobby's lyrical anomalies on l.l.rain, and truckin', just listen to phil's bubbling bass, brent's fantastic take on far from me (my favorite original of his by far), and of course jerry's grand leads on playing and crazy fingers. no this isn't one of the legendary shows, but it shore does make me smile. thank you archive and thank you boys.

This was the first Dead show in the Infamous Carrier Dome. The indoor football stadium on the campus of Syracuse University. This giant monstrosity on

the hill dominates the city skyline from a distance. This was a new experience for the dead being inside such a huge space to a sold out capacity of 80,000. From the opening notes of Jack Straw everyone knew it was going to be a hot one. Far From Me rocked the 2nd set open, followed by a spacey Playin>Crazy Fingers>Playin'. The drums>space felt like the whole place was a giant spaceship taking off into other dimensions. Killer Iko Iko>Truckin' out of space. 5 more rockin' songs after that. Just before the encore Phil says "We have a special event for you, tonight is Bob's 5th wedding aniversary & we've brought Bob's wife out all the way from California to give him a big wet kiss." Into a touching Brokedown Palace>Smokin' Sunshine Daydream.
