I’ve been listening to these Jan ‘78 shows lots lately. One thing I’ve noticed is Jerry’s main solo on all the Estimated Prophet performances are

REALLY SMOKIN! Probably most of ‘78 really. Most of us are familiar with the crusher at New Haven (Dick’s Picks 25). Bit this one is a corker as well. Another fave is Shrine Auditorium. Check out Matrix of that show, audience erupts at end of yet another Jerry journey.

like Donna's range in relation to Weir on this flight of the seabirds... Sound with slight static. Hey I am wondering if this is the really cool concert hall in the heart of downtown Sacramento. I went to a convention and this hall was within walking distance -the building though pretty huge was very elegant and had a great old time vibe. Can hear them tune for LOSER. love this set list! Really like Weir and Donna backing Jerry. Some kinda incident, "Weird" oh no-please don't mess with the vibe- that did not go over well earlier in the tour. Bob heads for Looks Like Rain almost impossible to clench a fist during this tune. Donna shadowing Bobby to start the tune, I kinda like when she sings along with him. She lays down some nice oh's and ah's and she sings final line on her own. Hard to figure out what the conversation is about right now. Something with Weir and Garcia. Another mellow tune, Jerry answers LLR. Not sure it gets much mellower than Row Jimmy The rhythm section is back to work. Also picking up some Phil Zone! (Still got static here and there) Ouch during the end of Row Jimmy. They are ready to rock again, Jerry asks "What you got" Bob- Minglewood Jerry-Sure. Hide the good china it's MINGLEWOOD! "The preacher man called me a sinner but his little girl called me a saint" The rockin' tunes are hot for this show! Jerry bringing another ballad The ROSES- The band is very much in control of the tempo of this show. They don't let themselves get caught up in the crowd's excitement. Phil picking up the pace on his bass. Donna nice again with back-up, I can hear Keith step out a little. To me Jerry's voice though raspy is still fitting in good with the music, almost sounds like Donna is a little hoarse as well. Guitar outstanding on ROSES. Perfect choice- A mellow tune that picks up in pace as it goes. MUSIC-Always! Love Bobby and Donna for this. Set Two Great Bertha opener I like the lay out of this BERTHA it makes me want to skip or hop or hopscotch or something? Note: Just before ESTIMATED you can hear WEIR lay out a setlist that goes up to Truckin' to which Garcia concurs. ENJOY! "I am in no hurry" The harmonies on BLACK PETER make it one of the best I have heard. (just had to get that in) 5 stars = for the show itself -1 star = incomplete show / some static.

One of the stronger jan 78 shows

me(well the black peter is rough). Bob and Donna sound in top form vocally during the looks like rain even with a brief miscue at the end. The Minglewood has some impressive r&r guitar work by gar as if he is a bit amped up... Goooood stuff. The meat of the show for me is the estimated->he's gone->drums->other one... the playing is focused and while the too doesn't start with a BANG like say 1/22, it slithers along and goes to enough places to make anyone grin. Thanks for the upload.

lovin+++, and arockin Estimated which makes me think some of those played in '78 are actually better than '77. If ever there was a year for that song this is it. Don't forget a 20 min Other One which blooms seemlessly out of a long cool space. All of that said, the whole year Jerry had laryngitis it seems like more likely from freebasing than anything else which is a pity as there are plenty of vestigial remnants of '77 in this music.
