Subject: Tear this building down!
I was at this show and living in Sommerville (near Boston) at that time. I remember everyone kept asking me if I had been there the night before; I had not and so I missed the help/slip/frank opener plus a lot of other wondrous stuff. But even though this night may have paled compared to Oct 1, it was still a Dead show and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Was it this show that the conga line formed during Iko? You can hear the energy pick up during that song. Then second set when they play Sampson and Delilah, everyone cheers to "I would tear this 'ol building down!" because they were indeed planning to tear the garden down and we wanted a larger venue without those damned columns blocking the view of the stage.

Excellent for the year, and even people who hadn't heard the Dead would probably say they played well. Nice work on the new tunes.

I remember being at this show. I had floor seats. There was no energy. I remember feeling sick and not being able to get into it at all. I kept trying to get pumped about my awesome seats and thinking the next tune would get me going but it never came. At the time I convinced myself that I was just worn out from the previous shows and jaded from the unbelievable show the night before, but now as I listen again, there really is no energy to this show. Every tune is flat and lifeless and boring. even standards that always have some energy like truckin' sound lifeless and flat. aside from a couple of highlights this show was the weak point of an amazing boston garden run.

I don't look at archived recordings or frequent taper sites, but I'm just getting my audio equipment back together & listening to some DATs, and thought I'd do a search for shows I recorded, this being the first search. The PMB Mics were mine and Dave Minor(RIP) was my best friend taper buddy at the time. Anyway, this may sound like "FOB" but we were not, I was in the taper section with some nice mics, cables, stand and pre-amp... I recorded the entire week from the taper section. Fun times.

The first set coming off a monster previous show is pretty good and mid set has some great gems. ALON, Row Jimmy, Broken Arrow. Tennessee Jed is shorter than normal and they rave it up for Picasso and this one really has some wings, the end gets messed up but that was the way it usually was with this number.
Aiko is really good and high energy, the set drifts with Samba and Shoe Fits but they crank it up from Samson through Truckin'.
As mentioned below the space into Days is excellent. Days is good with a huge solo by Jerry. He does spaces more verses than I would prefer but it is an emtional reading. I do think the one from MSG was the better of the two. You get a strong finish and NFA is sweet. A cranking US Blues ends show five.

Have a listen, if you haven't, to the last 5 to 7 minutes of space leading into Days Between. Honestly, I was never much of a Drums/Space guy but in this instance, the period I described has a real profound and sad feel. Really beautiful. I remember hearing it on the Grateful Dead hour back in 94 or 95 and being really struck by it. That memory of the GD hour just crossed my mind and I searched this one out. It sounded better than I recall. A really unique few minutes of music that almost sounds like a musical eulogy.

This show was my first BDay show in around 60 shows. While I enjoyed the night before more, this was still a above average show. I turned 30. And the fact the I flew up for the shows from my itty-bitty town of Piqua Ohio and had a 2 lobsters for 10 bucks supper capped of a very enjoyable birthday ( that took 3 days to celebrate ).
