Notes
retracking and edit of previous shn set, by J. Cotsman: SBD> MR> C> D> CD> EAC> SHN; with 3/26/68 filler; via J. Cotsman to vine
Deadbase XI's listing for this show is of uncertain order and incorrectly includes The Eleven and High Heel Sneakers, which are absent here and not listed in this show at Deadlists.com. Smokestack consists of the final verses. Notably, Good Lovin' features Garcia on lead vocals. The splice near the beginning of Drums is minor.
This is sourced from what would become the previously seeded version, I believe. I retracked it and edited a few minor things including a very short repeated section during Dark Star.

Forty years ago today the GRATEFUL DEAD were playin' in the park in the city, here's what some of it ... sounded like...free concerts in the park were the best.
This show is going to need some EQ'ing for playback. The sound is not bad considering what year it was recorded and the equipment they used.
Here's a "daytime" "Dark Star" from Golden Gate Park you don't get to hear too often. Garcia's classic SG sound is intact, the arrangement is original, but loose.
Pigpen's "Turn On Your Love Light" is classic 69'.
An excellent performance.
The Jefferson Airplane is up next after the GRATEFUL DEAD...so where is that show, man?
The GRATEFUL DEAD in the Park is a nice addition to your collection. I recommend it.

Subject: Wednesday Morning Russian II
I was a Wednesday morning Russian II student at Diablo Valley College in May of 1969. A friend of mine in class, Alan Frea, told me at break that ... he had heard announced on KMPX that morning while he was driving from Berkeley to Pleasant Hill that the Airplane and the Dead were playing for free that afternoon in the Polo Fields of Golden Gate Park.
After class I went to the DVC newspaper office and met fellow editor of the student newspaper, Ed. When I told him the news we dropped everything and drove immediately to the Airplane /Dead.
We left the newspaper office in haste and proceeded to drive to San Francisco, a mere 35 miles away. We had no gas, no grass, or no ass, but we went anyway.
There was no traffic. We drove continuously on fumes through the East Bay Hills and the Caldecott Tunnel, through Oakland on Broadway to the Bay Bridge and then unimpeded to Golden Gate Park Polo Fields and parked in the parking lot. While walking the thirty feet to the edge of the Polo Fields, I spied a baggie on the ground. It had two joints in it. We proceeded to smoke the two joints. Then the Grateful Dead started playing. At first, they were awful. We stood there on a bright warm sunny day near the beach wondering what the fuck, and after numerous starts and stops and lots off loose and nutty stage banter the Grateful Dead began to play in earnest while screaming at poor Bear to turn some one up or turn someone down all the while making lost keys and personals announcements they started wailing and shaking the cages of bound humanity. We turned from ones of total boredom to ones of total splurge dancing not 20 feet away.
The Airplane came on after a quick set change and started playing all their hits like White Rabbit and Somebody to Love just to get them out of the way. Then the Jeffersonianâs unhatched a spectacular encompassing cocoon of raptured snake music the likes the Dead had never conceived and just blew all 283 of us into the Ionoshere.
Near the end of the Airplaneâs set Ed, my fellow traveler, came bounding up with two hotties who wanted to experiment in free love, and that we should not let them down. We agreed and took them back to Edâs Oldsmobile and made exquisite kamaikaze sex with these two girls. After such we let them out of the car, drove silently towards home and never spoke to each other again about the Grateful Dead being outré de element.
This was during the time of the violent, anti-war demonstrations happening at every college and University around the world. Who needed gas?

Subject: Underrated!
The sound is not as sharp as ... others from this era, but not bad at all. About a "A-" grade I would put it.
The setlist is a wonderful break from the standard DS>SS>11>LL (not that's a bad thing, just a pleasant surprise) of this time. A long jammy "Uncle", a funky instrumental (which sadly cuts out), a strange "Other One" into equally strange "Smokestack Lightning" followed by a "Good Lovin'" with Jerry doing the lead vocals. Next up, a pretty decent "Dark Star" leading into an excellent "Lovelight" via "Drums" Add some funny 'you are there' banter, and you have one knock out. Yes, there is a lot of surprises about here!Warning : This can cause flashbacks to a show you never went to! ;) (and if you did, love to hear you story)
Also, it's an excellent gift to your Deadhead friend, if s/he doesn't know the setlist yet, just give it to them without them knowing and see the smiles.
Great fun show, and very very underrated. Start to download in 3..2..1..
