Not sayin' that the date listed is incorrect, but this would be well before the infamous events of January 31st, 1970 in New Orleans.

There are songs that are out of time in this Show's Collection

played. And I agree with earlier posters that Donna singing Sunrise in 1969 is impossible. The more definitive source what this Show entails is here: jerrygarcia . com / show / 1969-05-10-rose-palace-pasadena-ca-usa / (remove the spaces in between to get the link) 1. Hard To Handle 2. Me And My Uncle 3. Morning Dew 4. Doin' That Rag 5. Dark Star > 6. Saint Stephen > 7. The Eleven > 8. Turn On Your Lovelight - which is a more believable set list for May of '69, than IMHBTR and Sunrise

this is the one
The Dead seemed to have liked this venue as this show and the show at the Rose Palace earlier in the spring (Mar 22) are both a bit wild and wooly. There's
...
some nice write-ups about this show on the Internets. Evidently the Dead opened for a *movie* at this gig, specifically "Farewell Cream" (easily one of the worst classic rock concert documentaries ever produced). Also on the bill were the Kaleidoscope, one of the very best California psych bands (unfortunately their live sets are poorly documented). As for the music, it's all about the final four tracks. The Dark Star and the Lovelight, in particular, are noteworthy for plenty of inspired playing by Garcia whose amp is turned up loud. There is a tasteful edit near the beginning of Lovelight (the opening verses are missing so it seques right into the first instrumental section). Lots of fun jams in there. Also, no offense to those involved, but don't bother with the "remaster" (shnid 132812). This version sounds way better (and it's just fine).

Pigpen
@Outkast..... the 72 Europe tour had Keith and Donna AND pigpen as his health slow left him, he sung less and less, but this is a 69 show with filler.
...
So yes Pigpen did play with Keith and Donna. The 4 disc Stepping out' cd highlights England and Amsterdam shows of the 72 Europe tour and all the 4 discs are smoking hot! 4 stars for rarity and recording

Hard to Handle on is from this show
Other reviewers have said that some of the earlier songs on this recording are from 12-12-69. It's nice to hear a proto-Uncle John's; it had a more open,

looser feel before it became fully polished. The early part of the listed set is plagued by equipment problems. Most severely, the power cuts out to the amps just as Jerry's getting heated up in Morning Dew. However, Dark Star to the end simply smokes. The Eleven is one of the longest and best versions, though they were pretty much hitting that one out of the park consistently in '69. The Lovelight is well worth all 25 minutes. Sound quality is good to excellent throughout. 5 Stars for this part of the show.
