This show is a smokin show!
The drums were totally there! Absolutely strong beats with cymbal accents and more galore. They had quite the variety of ... cymbals in the era of Dead. The drum beat opening of Victim or the Crime! Crank that up and tell me what you think. Smokin!
Phil is snapping those bass strings like a wild terrapin with strong authority and sounding fukkin awesome.
Bobby whips out the acoustic for El Paso. I can smell the wood and leather from here. A charming version for sure!
Jerr bear is sounding grate. Very good for these years, even his vocals! The band seemed to be presenting a more refined tone that was apparent in some of these later years shows.
The boys captured a little feel of the 90's here and I really dig it.

Subject: The Life of the Dead
I've been a long time listener of the Dead, clocking in thousands of hours of listening. And though I was late to the scene, and don't dabble in post 92
...
shows most of the time, I was pleasantly surprised by this effort. How has no one mentioned the Space portion of this show, and the beautiful Spanish Jam that starts midway and coalesces into a fiery Last Time which fizzles into a perfect reading of Attics! God bless Bob Weir and his endless ignition...I'm sure he sustained Jerry more than we know in his final years. And there needs to be an honorable mention for Welnick's harmonies and, at times, his channeling of Mydland throughout this show. Listen to this show and remember the life of the Dead.

First set was interesting, but seemed disjointed. El Paso and Let It Grow were good and the Jerry tunes had their moments. In the second set, Victim
...
had a weird energy and Crazy Fingers was the best version that I heard live and is the best version of the 94-95 era (teleprompters certainly helped this number). Playin' had a nice jam that settled into a surprisingly good Terrapin...lyrically nice, very spacey middle jam and Garcia breaks out his lightening runs in the hot outtro jam (haven't heard those in awhile)...Attics is good and the encore Baby Blue is fantastic
caveat: this show should get about a 3.5...more on the songs that are good than the listening quality, which is tolerable

Short show overall. The first set highlight was El paso- no kidding. Second set has a passionate Terrapin. Victim was a nice surprise since it was a sunday
...
show and I thought samson was a slam dunk. The post space portions, short as they are are well played. Check out the Stella Blue fake out before Attics. Can't really describe the show. Unusual-not bad- but unusual.

collecter. These were the 1st of the tele-promter shows. I heard they did not have synching of the the lyrics to the music tempo. Hence it was worse than without them. A couple of songs are painful but a overall a great energy show.
They come out real strong with a one-two punch, a powerful Touch of Grey and a rockin Greatest Story Ever Told. They hit all the changes still charging ahead with spunkall singing We will get by!. I think the previous night's energy from the Branford show spilled well into this show. Jerry tuning after indictes an Althea coming up, it has quite a bouncey uptempo obviously still reeling from the openers. I think they were going faster than the tele-promters because Jerry mixes up quite a few lines. Walkin Blues really has it goin on, has a real great groove and sounds going on not too extended. Next is a rare appearnce of Phils Tom Thumbs Blues welcome with a lot of crowd enthusiasum. It starts a little rough but pulls together quickly into a true gem. Bobby then picks up the acoustic guitar for nice working-over of Marty Robbins El Paso. I think he even gets all or most of the lyrics. Loose Lucy gets the crowd in a real boogie. This one I think well represents the gooey blues-funk sound that worked real well in the later years. Two minute breather then a fast-tempo yet most beatiful and thick Let it Grow. It charges full-steam into a Jerry fury complete a la Phil smart bombs. A real good way to throw and exclamation point on an a great set.
For set two you could feel the excitement it in the air. They were firing on all cylanders in set one A little tuning and a drums kicks it off set 2!!! About a minute or two of drums twisted into a powerful and well-played Victim or the Crime. It gets way out there. Obviously a drummers choice with Vince and Jerry doing some even more interesting stuff in there. This is fades into, ahhhhhh Crazy Fingers! The 1st time the band has actually relaxed into a slow groove all night. It is loaded with Jerry-eMotion and still sparks-it-up. The gone are the days harmonizing is very stong with Jerry stomping his signatures solos all over. The end jam is long and goes way over-the-top. Phil and Jerry hammering their strings with the drums Bobby and Vince throwing-in the accents and back into the Crazy Fingers theme that quickly turns into a nice and raunchy Playin in the Band. Jerry actually tries to throw all the picks in that he wasnt doing the past few years. Anyway, the place was in full-tilt-boogie with the big sounds and high-peak-rolls. We were back riding that crest of the wave!!! Playin was jammed well into a nicely executed Lady with a Fan. It seems like some of the band is still fast on the tempo and Jerry was trying to calm things down. They start to rock out like a freight train from the Crickets and Cicadas line and beyond into the land of Terrapin. It was a short 20 minute drums/space that creeped into The Stones Last Time. I always found rockin songs hard coming out of space but this one is gentle and fun. It builds everyone into frenzy before slowing down and transitioning perfectly into ATTICS!!! Finally my 1st. It was done quite emotionally and right on-the-money. Before you knew it Johnny B Goode is putting us all into another crazy state and the show is over. You get a clue to this when it seems if they play any harder the stacks would blow up. Quite an increbile set.
To top is all off a very nicely played Baby Blue encore. It had been some time for me and Baby Blue. Left the show feeling wonderful and fully satisfied.

these were fun shows if memory serves except the lapd helicopters bothering from above, but one thing i remember is the terapin at mcnichols a few weeks
...
earlier jerry forgot the "Inspiration" vocal and it was like uh.....people were looking around like what happened well we know what happened was father time catching up to our beloved jerry, god love em', but we love them so we keep going to see them and on this night he did not forget and it was just great to sing along...god bless the grateful dead..if by chance you read this shawn stitt ...you remember dont you...peace scott arnold
