I was at both shows and can tell you they were the 2 best Dead shows I was part of. The 3 sets each eve and 66 songs over 2 nights, coupled with the enthusiasm
...
of the crowd was spectacular. The Theater is Incredible and to be in New Orleans-It could not have been better.
The Dead was thrilled to be there and in my opinion 1980 was when they were at their peak.

From what I came to understand, the band was banned from NOLA for a decade after their shakedown there following their Warehouse show as part of their
...
catch & release... True or not, t'was a special treat to see them acoustic first, then electric, then 177 more times... Of the 4 NOLA shows I saw, this being the first, none of them were mind-bendingly spectacular... Nonetheless, was always a treat to see them on home turf. Great to see the Saenger back up & running.

In resposne to the comment below, me too. Don't you think a Box Set of all the acoustic shows would be mighty keen?

of the clarity of the acoustic instruments as well is pretty darn clear. The electric sets are a little better than in SF. The pressure of recording for the album is off here and it shows.

This show marked the Grateful Dead's triumphant return to New Orleans ten years after they were "busted down on Bourbon Street" on drug charges early in
...
the morning of Saturday, January 31, 1970, at the Marie Antoinette Hotel in the French Quarter, as recounted in the hit song, "Truckin'." The 1970 drug bust took place after they headlined the opening of a new rock venue called The Warehouse in the lower garden district. The city fathers were intent on keeping the hippie counterculture out of New Orleans, but all they succeeded at was keeping the Dead out for the next ten years.
In 1970, the Dead played three shows at The Warehouse, January 30 and 31 and February 1. The third show was an unplanned legal fees fundraiser on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon, and the Dead were joined by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Those shows are also available to be heard on the Internet Archive.

According to an interview with Betty Cantor-Jackson, recordist for The Grateful Dead in The Tapers Compendium Vol 2, no SBDs of these shows were recorded.
...
The recording equipment was being moved from San Francisco to New York to record the Radio City Music Hall shows after the Warfield shows in San Francisco... Sorry. No SBD recordings of these shows were made.

A nice jazzy laid back feel to both of these acoustic sets, and some of the instrumental breaks are more creative than in NY and SF.
Unfortunately the ... souund quality of these AUDs make them rather difficult to enjoy. Do soundboards of either of these Saenger acoustic sets circulate?
And though this set is not as tight as 10/19, this Heaven Help the Fool is jazzy and extremely well jammed!

I found this show to be of excellent quality, in terms of sound and musicianship. It is quite a worthy show, deserving a listen. I love audience recordings
...
and this one is certainly another fine one, giving the listener a virtual seat in the theater. One of the advantages of audience sources is that they are more 'true' documents of events...that is, one can get a more realistic audio perception of a concert. This recording is a good example of this and definately worth a listen.
