Continuing the post from wildgeese (an old screen name of mine) ... Vince arrived after I did, carrying a cosmetics bag with a hairbrush and a pack of
...
Merit Ultra Lights. His hair was still wet in back from the hotel shower. We talked about his songwriting and how he started adding the horn part in the Estimated Jam. I asked if he would sing Way to Go Hime that night and he had no idea. My impression is he was a supporting contract employee who had little insight into the inner workings of the band. Still I admired him, his willingness to work and his funky print shirts.
There was a Leslie speaker cabinet in the room with a mic running to the stage. He said he was going with a. Stripped down stage presence after Brent's "cockpit" setup. So they moved the Leslie to his dressing room. Leslie makes that whooshing sound you heard when Brent played the B3.
After I left I went out to the stage area and learned that the whole interview had been played on the PA cuz of the microphone in the room. I watched the crew puttering around while I looked at my notes, and realized that jerry had been there all along, on a couch inside the "tent" city behind stage.
Makes sense considering he had trouble even walking much around this time. So whenever he disappeared for the drums set he only went about 50 feet to his sofa with its black curtains all around. He was there on stage the whole time.
Interesting.

I just listened to about half of the numbers from this one, in random order, and it's definitely not noticeably bad at all. Loser was a standout and miracle
...
was well played. So many roads was a little rough but it pretty much always was. I'd say it's a decent show overall.

And I don't care what the phony critics say, it was an an awesome scene and a great crowd. I remember clearly in the middle of some jam, a guy from the
...
crowd screams out, "Concentrate!" -- Jerry looks up for a second, and pulls it together nicely. They closed with Not Fade Away, and the crowd is chanting to the band, "you know our love ..." and you can FEEL it, we are passionately begging these tired old farts to come back on and just give us one more good time - and they did so graciously with a truly sweet encore. If you want to get technical - okay - but is that what the music's about? go write a critical review about Beethoven or something, I dunno. But that night there was sweet precious, magic, and I'm sure most folks who were there that night will tell you -- we all felt that we were the tide that played the band, and it was just beautiful. I am THRILLED to be getting this download, and I'm giving five stars with a sense of reverence, loyalty, and gratitude for being young and crazy while it still wasn't too late to see the old boys and Jerry throwin' us that fire.

How excited was I when GDTS sent me 2nd row center seats especially since I live less than a mile from the Spectrum (RIP)then we (Philly) didn't get a
...
show in '91 so I was expecting at he very least an "Irish" themed jam (2 Soldiers) and instead witnessed the worst GD show ever out of 509 shows & I still hold this opinion today. I'm giving no stars. The only highlight is the Box opener. After that what else is there? I always try to find a silver lining however all i can see is a dark cloud with this show. DISAPPOINTING!!!! It is the begining of the end

My posse didn't have tix for this show, but I managed to score at the last minute. It was Saint Patty’s day and everyone was drunk. I went in as the
...
lone ticket holder in my group (first time solo). Shoulda stayed out in the parking lot instead. I witnessed a very short perfunctory show with little emotion, imagination, or substance and almost no jamming in the second set. Maybe Sugar Mags was inspired, but the rest was a complete throwaway. 91 was a fab year, but 92 got off to a shaky start that included Jerry's "exhaustion" which resulted in the cancellation of the east coast fall tour. The new songs-- particularly Corrina-- were not up to standard. Hindsight reveals that it was the beginning of the end after the 1989-91 renaissance. Avoid this one and choose your 92 shows carefully!

Subject: Dismal Affair!!
I often look at this Spring 92 tour, and more specifically this show, as the point where the band took a significant step down and never fully recovered.
...
This was the show that started an all too common trend of lame 6 song first sets that haunted 92-95.
After a nice suprise Box of Rain opener this show took a nose dive and can rival any 94-95 show for worst of the decade.
Jerry sings only 4 songs the whole night, he probably shouldn't of sung any. Even worse he is absent on the playing end as well through the entire show. The rest of the band, even Hornsby, can't pick up the slack on this one. Can't think of any redeeming value to download even one song on this show, unless your a fan of Cassidy 1st set closers and Way to Go Home 2nd set openers(OUCH!).
I saw 6 shows on this tour, 3 Nassau 3 Philly, and maybe 2 (03/11 & 03/16) earned an average rating at best. If you are looking for Spring 92 shows check out Copps or Hampton.

Worst Dead show I ever saw. Only highlight (for me) was I got to interview Vinnie backstage in his dressing room. It was a TINY little space, where they
...
also kept a Leslie speaker (miked to the stage PA). It was like they kept him in a janitor's closet. Poor dude.

Hey, I had a good time at this St. Pats show. Lots of energy from the crowd. You can hear the baloons popping but not the green glow sticks that were
...
everywhere.
Sure this show is not the best, but the Box opener and So Many Roads are well done. Sound quality not bad at all for an audience.
So if you went to this show, don't be deterred from the other reviews.

I was at this show and admittedly under some non-prescribed medications so my memory is a bit fuzzy. After listening to the show I have to concur with
...
the other reviews, this show was lackluster at best. However, the reason I sought out this show and listened to it was because I very vividly remember the Sugar Magnolia as being one of the best I ever heard. Even though the sound was low and the band was off, the audience went bonkers during this song and it seemed like the ceiling was dripping blood. Everyone was on their feet and singing (screaming) along with Bob as he strained his voice to be heard over the crowd. The tape does not do it justice and I guess you just had to be there in the middle of that overwhelming energy to appreciate the magic of that moment.

This show was awful. The rumour at the time was that Jerry had the flu. The volume in the hall was horribly quiet. It was so quiet I can remember talking
...
to a friend at regular volume with no need to raise my voice at all. I think what I said was, "Doesn'tthjis show seem kind of shitty."
"What are you talking about?" came the reply. You know what they say, "You can always tell a deadhead, but you can't tell him much." This was the beginning of the end for me. After starting out in 1986 and all the great shows in '87, '88 '89, '90 and '91, 1992 is just awful. They say Brent is the guy that spurred Jerry on, well without him and with only lame-ass Vince as a replacment it's no wonder.

Before you read any further, please note that I am not referring to the recording WHATSOEVER. I'm sure the quality of this recording is more than adequate.
But ... there's a reason nobody has written a review of this show yet. IT'S NOT WORTH HAVING!
Jerry sings four songs for the entire night. FOUR! This is the St. Patrick's Day Massacre. If Owsley had made a Matrix tape of the show it still wouldn't be worth having. This show makes 6-29-92 (the second night of Deer Creek) look like a hot show. It makes the Richfield Blizzard show look positively suspenseful.
Now that I've given you plenty of warning against wasting your time on it, let your morbid fascination with car wrecks get the better of you and go ahead, download it. You know you will.
