FRANCE!!!
Perhaps I'm the lone fan that really liked Shakedown Street. I'm certainly the lone fan that adores the song "France", and here is an alternate version

of it (mistakenly titled "Serengeti). For real, they never performed "France" live?! I found my way into the Dead after hearing "Good Lovin'" from the "Shakedown Street" LP (my gateway dead LP) - something about the double drum part just got into my head. I also latched on to Weir's vocals earlier than vocals by Jerry, etc. Recently bought Dave's Picks #19 (Hawaii) and "Good Lovin'" was also great in 1970.

I actually like this Fire better than the version used on Shakedown Street.

It's a studio session, what do you expect?
It is what it is. However, this If I Had the World to Give is BEAUTIFUL. I wish they had done this one more.

agree with the first reviewer below that the best cut here is number 8, I Need a Miracle, which is better than what wound up on the released album.

George. An invaluable peek into the recording process & the influence of a great talent on a great band. Sound quality average. The Archive is the greatest thing I have run into on The internet. Grateful I am!

Grateful Lowell
That's Lowell singing alone on Good Lovin' take 1. He also does some backing vocals on GL take 2 and I Need a Miracle. What's odd is what I downloaded

from this page has France as track 2 -- no Serengeti. Go figure... anyway, it's real interesting for Little Feat & Dead fans like me. You can really hear Lowell in the drums and percussion. Some of these tracks don't sound much different from the released versions on Shakedown Street. They're like the basic tracks, minus most of the overdubs. Fire on the Mountain has the same rhythm mix with different guitar work from Jerry. Saint of Circumstance is undeveloped -- you can see why they waited to release it until Go to Heaven. The highlight is I Need a Miracle -- quite different and with a great but too brief vocal duel with Bobby and Lowell. Too bad Lowell didn't get a miracle. The Feat could've done a terrific cover with him.
