There was a pat down at the gate and my first memory of this concert was a security guard reaching down the back of a fellow wearing a baggy psychedelic
...
colored woven hoodie and pulling out a foot and a half length of mirror. Wonder what that was for? The security guard looked at his nearest partner and they both just shrugged and he stuffed it back down his back and passed him through. Lots of memories of that night, but that is the first one that always comes to mind.

IIRC, the show ended just before midnight due to the venue's curfew. Of course, I could be wrong. Most of the summer '82, '83,'84, '85 shows ended a few
...
minutes before midnight because of that rude curfew.

Does anyone know what times of the day this show was? I was hoping it ran passed midnight because my birthday is the very next day.

I remarked on the inventiveness of Bob's playing a few nights earlier. Others remarked on Brent's playing the following night, but Brent on this night

is on fire.

I went to this concert on a lark, just to see what the big deal was about the Dead. I'd heard their music but never quite got it. Before the concert I
...
sat in my car with my girlfriend and took a shot of rum each, snorted some coke, dropped some acid, and smoked some pot. Then went to the concert.
At one point during the concert, I realized something amazing was happening. The band was playing a song and then each musician kind of went off on their own track, doing completely different things musically but it all somehow fit together. I looked around to remark about it, to see if anyone else around me was hearing what I was hearing and noticed that everyone around me was... asleep!
Including my girlfriend. I nudged her and she woke up. I tried to communicate my experience, yelling in her ear as she came around to ask if she could hear what I was but she had to have been following it all along. So didn't understand. It was utterly mind expanding though, a completly amazing experience.
Being stage right just off the floor area, up above us there was a hung bank of speakers facing us just off and above the stage and... it was loud.
Directly below some women were dancing, spinning circles in loose long, tie dyed sun dresses. It was a magical moment and finally, I got it. I understood what it was about the Grateful Dead that was so amazing. These were talented musicians, to be sure. And it wasn't just the drugs. :) Okay I'm sure that had SOME thing to do with it, but they were still doing what they were doing and it was worth experiencing to be sure, especially since now in hindsight, Jerry is no longer with us.

My work schedule kept me from making Veneta the night before, but I made this one, and have vivid memories of having a great time. I always loved this
...
venue for its openness, sound, and relaxed vibe, and never saw the Dead play a sub-standard gig there. This show is relatively short, and yeah, the set-list isn't that exciting, but who listens to set-lists? The band is focused and intense, Jerry is in good voice (increasingly rare for '82), and this tape positively sparkles in the high-end. The ever-becoming He's Gone is a treat, and post-drums is especially good - with its NFA coming brooding and nasty outta space (before it was doomed to become their silly kiss-off closer), a tragic WRat, and stankin' Sugar Mag - sweet!

Ah, here it is, the one and only time I saw the Grateful Dead live. It was great, and I really appreciated the spirit of the crowd. People dancing with
...
strangers, feeling relaxed and laid back. I sort of became a fan at that point, though not an avid follower. I 'got' the Dead, but didn't feel driven to explore their music (because, honestly, it's all pretty much the same). Perhaps if I started in '72, and took the right drugs, I'd be a bigger fan. Still, a very memorable experience!

The reviews below are yet more evidence, to me, that Deadheads are listening to something other than the music. This is the best show, musically, that
...
the band did all month! The sound quality of the recording may be annoying (it is), and you may have had a better time down in Veneta, but neither of those things matter if you're listening to the actual music, which is why the Dead were there: they played music!
Anyway, everybody is playing awesomely on this one. Check it out!

Not much to say about this show. The sound was better than I expected for an AUD, and the show itself was not a clunker. However, nothing really stood
...
out or pumped me up in this show.
It made pleasant background music as I did some household cleaning, but I think if I was listening to this show simply for the pleasure of listening to a show, I would have been disappointed. I'm giving this one two stars only to balance out the 4-star rating here...it's really a 2.5 star show.

Setlist is rather dull, perhaps due to Mr. Kesey keeping them up late the night before, but this is actually a pretty tight performance, and an excellent
...
FOB audience. Love those Nak 300s.

Especialy compared to the previous excellent Veneta, Ore. show this was pretty mundane, short and generic. 3 at best.
