Brokedown Palace was very lovely. And Weir playing a second line like it was a New Orleans funeral. Wow. As I recall Phish was a popular bar band that night. I was so satiated, I just walked til bedtime. Amen

and Summer of 1990 were very good musically for the Band. Brent was stepping up to help out Jerry and Bobby with the tune rotation. And listen to his jumping in for backing vocals at all points. Phil seemed to be letting his bass licks drop in 73 fashion when he had the mind. MASTERPIECE-That tune had some kick and now really reminds me of this era. I like Bobby sings it straight here with no DYLAN antics. The backing vocals are great with Garcia shadowing Bobby at just the right points in the song. Very enjoyable show!

seen a Help Slip Frank before and while the boys were tuning up I heard Jer tuning for Help and my mouth hit the floor. I turned to look at my bro and he was just smiling and shaking his head up and down. Fun to go back and listen to this show and remember being young and foolish and enjoying life in a carefree way with my brother. Good times for sure. Needless to say, that was a great couple of days. Was it worth it the 4k round trip drive. I'd have to say yes.

heard that Brent had died. The whole thing actually changed for me in Alpine Valley in '88. I didn't think I'd go to any more shows after that tour. My impression of the tour was that the Old Feeling had left the scene. My friends got their nice tent ripped off, I got thrown out of a show by jock goons in Minneapolis and it went downhill from there. Maybe I was just getting old or something. I'd give it a couple more chances before throwing in the tie dye. Anyway. Nice to have these here to listen to. I can listen to them when I'm sitting on the porch in my rocker, yelling at kids to get off my asphalt. I remember the weekend. Well, sorta'. I think Kesey was at these shows. I've bumped into him so many times in Oregon, it's hard to get the dates straight. I KNOW Bill Graham was there. Jesus, I AM old.

Help slip franks sounded, and it was awesome but maybe a little bit short(slipknot), check out 7-18-90 deer creek to find the best h>s>f post bust out at hampton fall 89. Anyway, most notable to me is phil's tone on the bass. Truly unique even for him. These two west coast tour closing shows in eugene were definately some of phil's best sound ever. I wish we could still download these sbds. Phil rules

Help>Slip>Franklin's are well jammed and interesting, which wasn't always the case. If you get tuned in to the energy of the show from the start, Masterpiece is an inspired choice. Sometimes Bob makes some 'odd' calls but I'm beginning to understand them a little better. The energy of the tune is exactly what is needed at that point. Just A Little Light and Candyman are textbook versions and Let It Grow to close the set with a little exploration. Foolish Heart to open and an exceptional version it is. I don't care for Women Are Smarter but Jerry's midi solo really takes it somewhere I've never heard it go before, gives it a real 'fiesta' feel that makes me wish the song lasted longer. Wonderful reading of Standing On The Moon, second only to Alpine the previous year. Nice Box Of Rain and Estimated and relaxed and interesting He's Gone. Then the 1971 medley to close, including an excellent Brokedown Palace.

I will never forget this one...
The day was typical Oregon overcast and I was sitting halfway up the stadium at stage right. Sugar Magnolia came around and right on queue with "Sunshine
...
daydream" the clouds opened and the sun shone down ONLY on the band and the crowd dancing on the field. I was at this show with my father and we looked at each other grinning ear to ear. You could see the edge of the sunshine sitting perfectly in a ring that stopped just at the edge of the bottom row of seats. This is truely my all-time favorite Dead moment. The show was good quality, Little Feat opened up, and a good time was had by all that day.

the next few drag a little, but things pick back up with "Women Are Smarter" and from there on the show never looks back. Good recording of a good show.

w/ a nicely jammed Let it Grow...not to mention the rest of the songs. The second set consists of extremely well played standalone songs at first, but jams out in Estimated->end. Get it!!
