I don't seem to have any "bottom loss" here. In fact, I like the mix alot. I'm running a Denon 90w digital amp, a Mitsubishi 10 band EQ with Kirksaeter

studio enclosures and there's plenty of bottom in this recording. I like that it's got a nice crispy middle and top. My advice to the listeners below is that they run a hotter EQ, push the bass if'n it ain't makin' ya' want to dance. Maybe I'm just so dang old and have worked at and seen so many shows that my ears are shot. Who cares? Let's frug! Cookin' show here from the early 80's.

The last reviewer accurately describes the new Compton Terrace. This show (which I saw) was at the original Compton Terrace--which was a gorgeous grass

amphitheatre next to the zoo and the now defunct Legend City Amusement Park. Fun to come out of the show blazing and hit the rides...Nice acoustics too. The recording is crisp and the songs are well played, but the absence of the low end is distressing.

Subject: Horrible venue! Long waits on I-10, and, hey, where is Phil?

I can put up with crappy old Compton Terrace, especially considering that the new venue of choice is Desert Sky, er, uh, Cricket Pavilion, where the venue

guarantees no shade, no respite from the Arizona sun! Seriously, these dusty old shows at Compton Terrace were accessible only off I-10, so there would be miles-long queues waiting to get in.
But, ah, this is about the music. What's here is good, with one exception: where is Phil? Did he flake out and self-immolate from the heat. Or did the taper just kind of do a crappy job of capturing the bass. I can't believe so many ppl have given this show five stars. Yes, audio quality is decent -- but THERE IS NO BOTTOM. This sounds like listening to the Dead on a '60s era "transistor radio" (boy, am I dating myself...). If you like high, then, tinny sound, then this is the show for you. Crank the bass up all the way, it helps a bit, but not much.
Great performances, I gotta say. But Phil is MIA on this audience recording... Three stars for the ol' college try, but take off two for no Phil.

This audience recording is better than most boards. It is so clear and crisp that all I can do is give thanks and praises to those who recorded this mighty

show. As for the content of the show, the band is in fine form. Garcia singing is strong and confident. Other One is super big with all members so excited that Phil does not get in his classic bass roll with a final bomb. No matter. The intensity is there and it is a strong version. Download this 81 and spread the news!

The set list is somewhat similar to the next year, but the first two years at the Compton Terrace were the best and I went to all but the last one ! My

tapes are in storage so I haven't heard this in a while but I remember liking the first set. This is the only "tour" I ever went on out of the ~211 shows I saw from '76-'94; seeing all of the west coast summer shows except Boise.

is just a treat, it just rocks and sways with no hint of paranoia or angst. Brents organ was shot from the get-go so it interesting to hear him play keyboards on songs like Samson. The recording is a power house 441 Senn...you just gotta poke around and find these treats
