This one cooks from the beginning to the end, from the Bucket to the Baby Blue.
A very rare Jack/Job closes out the first set!

Rating this one because I can't review the Miller version. Easily one of my favorite Dead shows of all time! The first set is a touch sloppy but the jams
...
are already showing you what's to come. Out of this world 2nd set. Unbelievable Playin' in the Band.

this is just one of outstanding nights. Love the Playing in the Band on this tour. In and out of it in so many ways. out of space into space out of Wharf Rat into China doll and completed the next night in Maine. Can't ask for better then that.

Anyone recall Max Creek opening? Apparently, the GD went over to the Agora after the show and jammed with Max Creek. Did anyone here witness that?

slipnut - I saw Creek play somewhere after one of those Hartford shows but it might have been '83, I think, I hope I would remember ... if the Dead showed up! I remember they did a cover of Estimated Prophet that night

In fairness to the person you're complaining about, Fugawee cited the Scarlet->Fire-Playing being 40 min (close to it, too), not just the Scarlet->Fire.

Just look at the post and it tells you!
Solid show through and through. Attended this one and remember it a lot for the smokin' Sugar Mags but the whole second set, while song selection is unspectacular/typical for the era, is really nicely played with some fierce licks from Garcia in the Scarlet->Fire.

I was there, Weir was deafening in his distortion and raunch. I never heard him play like this before, posessed would be the appropriate term. The Sugaree
...
is for the ages, one of a kind; not sweet, but, may i use the term...sick! Bird song takes it to another level. The second set blazes too. This was one of my top 5 of 43 shows. It was an incredible show, afterwards everyone was talking about how they hadn't seen a show that sounded like this one before. . Long live 10/15/84, it was a helluva' Saturday night.

I have major hearing problems. It’s called tinnitus and for those of you who don’t know it is a constant ringing in your ears. Therefore, it is hard
...
for me to find audience shows that are of good enough quality for me to listen to without doing further damage to my hearing by having to turn up the volume past 5 to even tell what song is being played!! I am not saying anything about these shows except that as a person with major hearing lose, these are some of the shows that I have on my I-Pod. Of course some are better than others. However, I am not giving any of these shows a review. I can always find something good in every show…...as long as I can hear it!!!! Here is my list for today, 9/20/08:

this evening demonstrates the boy's "hard at work"
Jerry's voice is a little amphibian but don't let that stop you from taking in every last note of this ... "jammer".
I recorded this night with a technic's SV 100 digital audio processer on video tape masters FOB with unknown mic's.I came home from the tour with complete uncut masters including the october 11 and 12th from Augusta shows.
I am very sorry to report that the ravages of time have caused dropouts all over the masters so only the audio cassettes survive today.
(this show, the first night of hartford, both Augusta's and Portland ME all are worthless)
however, thanks to archive I can again pick up and listen to this baby over and over.
enjoy, this one with hawaiian indica nugs for "full color" sound effects and profound mind movement

this was the third show I saw in Fall 1984, and what a night! the first set sugaree was hot, and jack straw was a screamer, but lights down, second set,
...
and wow! i wish the drums was complete (i have it on a Nak300/D5 aud tape), but otherwise, the second set is fantastic . . . some young ladies seated behind us were shouting "good trip, good trip" through the scarlet/fire transition jam ... yes, it was. But that fire on the mountain! we looked up and thought the roof was gonna cave in on us from phil's bass. spacey playin in the band, fun drums, nice wheel and wharf rat with better than average for 1984 harmonies. Rock out with sugar mag, then a sweet baby blue encore (which didn't make it onto my tape - thanks archive!)Nice warm audience recording.
