A great show, with polysemic depth. All you statisticians from Canarsie (or a look at Deadbase) can correct me on this one, but I believe this night
...
was the breakout, after a long hiatus, of Uncle John's and Brokedown (I heard them sound check Brokedown while I was lurking around the venue). This was significant because this was the Dead's first time in Greensboro after the Klan Massacre ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greensboro_massacre ), and I like to think they were making a statement.

This is a great show after the otherwise poor showings in Atlanta and Birmingham. Sound here is pretty good and gives you that "there" feeling. High
...
points are definitely the Uncle John > Jam, and everything post-Space is JUMPIN'. I guess a low point (if any) would be a somewhat standard opening to the 1st set until they reach Big River, which accelerates the show to the level it would remain at until the end.

i'm pretty sure there is not another transition like this estimated/uncle johns. i had to listen to it several times to make sure it was'nt a splice. completely
...
out of the blue moment. the rat is really nice and the around/j.b. goode transition is another oddity. j.b. goode is one of the best jerry versions. whole show is worth a listen. jerry has major vocal flub in promised that's more funny than painful. 5 stars for unique moments. don't give up at the beginning, the sound clears quite a bit. if you can tolerate a little trivia... in the dead family album they list the gross ticket sale amounts for each venue on this tour and after doing the math it looks like there were only @ 6,000 people at this show. (it held @15,000 in 1980) they were playing hard for a 1/2 empty building. the shows up north on that tour mainly sold out and brought it tons more money than the southern shows. it must have been strange for the dead to see the explosion of fans after having flown under the radar for so long. double edged sword. like being forced to get a real job, making more money but having to tuck in your shirt and shave. this sugaree is starting to catch fire and the sound is not bad for an audience.
