Subject: Drums and Space
My favorite part of any show is drums and space. for me this is the climax- everything before leads up to it and everything after is winding down from it. Drums never fail to bring joy, but the space in this show is particularly inspiring (and I mean this literally as a visual artist who is inspired by music). I could listen to it over and over again. Just wonderful.

This is the last show in Colo, and the penultimate in the Rockies Time Zone (with one more run in SLC in Feb). It's the lesser show of the run.
First Set. The solid enough Hellina is the peak of the show. There are no fireworks in Sugaree, with all the spaces being left for Vince, though the spryness almost saves it. Bobby keeps Wang Dang from pitching sideways, but every verse is flubbed on Loser, with Jer's guitar cautiously turned down in the mix. Rarity If the Shoe Fits was just past its peak frequency. Masterpiece is acoustic, and the 3rd best of the set. The 2nd best is Bird Song, which has the first real Jer fretwork of the set. As far as the rhythm section, the best set of the run.
Second Set. Here Comes Sunshine is the first in Colo since 11/21/73. Marred by tech problems and lyric flubs, it's a wash. Worse is Saint. Jer gets lost repeatedly, but shows up for the solo break. Maybe worst ever. Now spurred to rescue mode, Way to Go Home isn't half bad. After an idler Eyes, Space starts with a long Bralove section, then a Bralove/Vince section, before some so-so MIDI experimentation. Watchtower is just a bit off, okay by the end. Jer trainwrecks most of the lyrics for Days Between and struggles rather than bails. Excruciating. Throwing Stones is rickety until the middle jam, then Bobby flubs verses again. Brokedown has a brief false start and some lyric flubs, but okay playing.
1st Set: C-
2nd Set: D-
Overall = 1¼ stars
Highlights:
nope
SOURCES: No SBDs, and the ladner_10932 is the only AUD with presence for both Phil and the drummers. The show is usually up on YouTube, as a constant shakes AUD cam.

i usually pick the one with the most views because it most likely sounds good.
this one is pure shit, why would you even upload this in this condition, sounds like it was taped in the bathroom.

nathalie is right ... one of the best highlights of this night is Vince's Way to go Home - which at this point, had matured into a very nice song that i think was pretty underrated and probably mostly because it was a Vince tune.
Here Comes Sunshine is flubbed right off the bat. St. of Circumstance- one of my all time fav's- had very little *pop* to it like it normally does. Days is murdered! *sorry Jer*
And, oh yea, the distinct three waves of audience outburst- i remember like it was yesterday. Bobby was singing the final verses of Throwing Stones, only he started every line of with *the rich man in his summer home* which isn't supposed to come until the third time around. After he would sing the first line .. "And the rich man in his summer home" he would catch himself by the second line and sing it correctly ... "sing black go south and white come north" ... "and the rich man in his summer home"...."lose a step fall out of grace" ... and when he finaly got it right on the third time the crowd and Bobby were laughing and cheering while bobby even pointed to the crowd upon hitting the right line *cuz we were singing it right all along* . It was quite a laugh and the best part of the show if you were there. If you were not, it makes this particular night difficult to listen to cuz there was a lot of miscues and lyrical flubs. Another good laugh was at the very end when they came out to sing Brokedown. Jerry really miscues at the begining and the crowd gets another good chuckle. They pretty much had to start over. It was almost as bad as the Blackbird they attempted in Alpine many years before.
Alas, lol, these are not the always the most memorable moments we always want to remember about our beloved Dead ... but they did have their off nights and man, lol, this was one of em. I guess the Bird Song was pretty nice in retrospect=)

I was at this show and I thought it was pretty rocking. While Jerry messed up a lot of the words in Days, there were also some very inspired moments during Bird Song and in Throwing Stones.
There were 3 different waves of audience eruption during T.Stones that I remeber like it was yesterday. Still gives me shot of electicity when I hear it.

This was the last of three nights in Denver for The Dead. The last time Jerry's guitar was heard live in Colorado. I did not make the first two shows but this one was a winner from start to finish...Things got kicked into gear with Loser an off we went. Great Masterpiece..Bobby has the crowd in his back pocket and puts this Dylan opus over with great feeling...Nobody in the hall missed the point...Jerry's classic Days Between was a fitting last ballad showcase for everybody's favorite friend...As we all know it was great just being in the same room with Jerry and this was the last time for me.
