The last song is not noted in Deadlists; it cuts on the tape after 2:10. It seems possible that the rest of the show (Good Lovin', Minglewood, Cumberland, Uncle John's according to DeadBase) is on the master.
note - Everything above 7 kHz is hiss, so I cut out the high range a little. No "noise reduction" algorithms were applied.

what happened. We had known them since the summer of '67 first as fans and then during our various roles in and around the music scene. So when we got our hands on some student council dollars at good old Queens College. One thing leads to another and there we were with another sold out show with a huge crowd outside.
The recording was made from the projection booth, which account for the somewhat distant sound. Never one of my faves because of this. It was a challenge in this one level theater. At least there was little audience noise. During the show there were pitched battles when people would pop an exit door & a flood of people would surge into an already overpacked house.security had there hands full with that sitch. So from stalling the backstage elevator mid floor with Jerry, Bob Phil and some fans with some floral offerings. After a while we returned to earth & the show began. Like a Cheech & Chong movie. Those were some great times. Afterwards, back to our place for another all nighter. We were living over a bar then & could crank it way up anytime we wanted. Loaves of bread & pounds of mixin's made sure no one was hungry for long.
It's funny how this show was one I ignored in favor of the Capitol Theatre tapes with their clarity. Now in retrospect, I can remember my old lady from so long ago, smiling & dancing, 21 years old. Gotta give it some stars, just for the memories.
Usual setup.
Sony TC124s with Sony F95 mikes placed in black foam blocks to isolate sound. No extension cables, they stayed at the Cap for years. Just laid the mics in about a 60 degree spread. Used to spend a lot of time in those booths here & there around North America. I used to always tour the theaters, from top to bottom. Interesting buildings.
And so it is that all our shows & all them pix can now shed just a little light into our outlandish youth, oh the places we've seen.

This is a typically great 1970 show. Where is the rest of it? The missing last songs (Good Lovin'-> Drums-> Good Lovin', Minglewood Blues, Cumberland
...
Blues, Uncle John's Band) are probably dynamite.
Lots to appreciate about this audience tape. It's somewhat "muddy" but seems to capture the ambience of the hall nicely. The crowd vibe is certainly there but wherever the mic was placed there's no "interference" (loud clapping, people talking over the music) to lessen the experience. The crowd, in fact, occasionally seems indifferent to the music being played and sounds just like the mumbling you'd hear at a shopping mall behind the elevator music (check out, e.g., Candyman, a tune which perhaps wasn't familiar to many in attendance, American Beauty still a few weeks away from release)! Some things never change ...
A rare electric version of Deep Elem is "explored". Jerry's singing is relatively tentative compared to the version he belts out at at Legion Stadium on Dec 27.
Any Hard to Handle clocking in over 9 minutes is going to be a great one. This one dives deep with Jerry occasionally sounding a lot like Bobby. Pig isn't a real factor here ...
The real meat here is the Other One->NFA (nothing special about the drum solo). Around 2:30 in, Weir sounds like a one-man string section. The NFA quickly wanders completely off the reservation with everything but the kichen sink thrown with China Cat riffs, We Bid You Goodnight riffs, Goin Down the Road riffs, and the rest of the wad being tossed into a countrydelic salad.
Close your eyes and pretend that you're sitting or dancing comfortably with some respectful freaks near the back of this vast, shallow-roofed theatre. And don't forget to turn it up.

While Queens College itself is a pretty neat place. I hope the Dead got to hang in the outdoor Amphitheatre and meet some of the locals.
The Colden Center ... tended to be over supervised by the time I got to QC and was not very head friendly.
Would be nice if someone came out with a board of this show but it is good to have this audience copy.
Levon Helm played outside at the Student Center in the 80's and that was one of my best days ever at the College.

I attended this concert, and enjoyed it very much quite a few songs are missing from the tape and one that is not even mentioned was"Viola Lee Blues"
it ... had to be like a broken record when the point in the song where Jerry Garcia kept repeating the same 3 notes at the end of the verse which seemed like an eternity it was burnt into the crevasses in my brain .......

Crptical>Drums>TOO>NFA!
This is a decent audience recording, but the music is top notch 70 Dead. There is hiss, which is to be expected from ... this era of AUDs, but the music does shine through and is worth every second of the listen.

I'm gonna post my opinion here, which is less about the show itself (which is fine) and more about the review which appears below mine and it's "dumbass"

EASY on the hostile ignorance, folks.....seriously. There should be nothing but gratitude for EVERYTHING (especially AUDs) that is available to us here at the Archive. Obviously, the poster below me is NOT an old-timer and will NEVER be able to appreciate how we were so grateful to get our hands on ANY Live Dead tapes back-in-the-day. I don't wanna just blanket-statement the youngsters among us, but DAMN!.....appreciate and be grateful!! Calling someone a "dumbass" for not breaking-out the GDTRFB jam is blatant disrespect, is in very poor taste and is quite inexcuseable. Put it in the context of The Bigger Picture and it's got nothing to do with this website or anything related to The Dead. DAMN, kids....Get It Together and respect those that blazed the wide-open trail before you!!
Had the poster below me actually ATTENDED Grateful Dead concerts, was integrated into The Scene and traded tapes back-in-the-day, I'm certain that the odds of such a hateful comment would be quite low.

This was the earliest GDTRFB I could find on archive, and it's hardly more than a tease, chords and solo with no words, that comes at the end of good lovin'.
...
Kind of cool to see how it developed from this to later versions. Not a great quality recording and GDTRFB didn't even get it's own slot, 3 stars, should give it less cuz the dumbass who uploaded this forgot to give GDTRFB it's own track.

The show is pretty cool in my opinion, lots of solid jammin' going on. However, just like most other AUD's, the quality of this one is barely standable
...
to my ears... definitively not something I'm going to burn on a CD, which I guess is exactly what GDM Inc. intended when they banned soundboards...
