Yes, they showed up rested and ready for this show!
This show stands out amongst 1988 shows. First set is solid with perhaps TOO many Phil bombs. "Masterpiece" is sung by Bobby with great enthusiasm, with
...
Jerry adding hs own high-energy vocals. "Bird Song" goes to that place. Second set pre-drums is very strong all the way through. A highlight is the only 1988 "Saint", which blazes along and contains essentially no errors despite its not being in the rotation. Energy stays strong until end of show. I give this 5 stars in the context of 1988, but in any Brent-era year except maybe 1979 or 1981, this would make the top 10 shows of the year list.

holy crap this was my first dead show!
I was not a dead head. I knew American Beauty and Skeletons in the Closet and that was it. I didn't "get it". I just knew I had to see them, that's
...
why I went. I was disappointed. They seemed too country. I saw them when they returned to Miami in 1994, and was disappointed again. I didn't "get it" until I saw them in Scranton in '04 with Warren Hayes. That blew me away. Now I look back at this, my "first show" and am amazed at what I missed. Thank you everyone who keeps this website going.

Fun, fun, fun
I always thought that was one of the most energy-filled China>Rider transitions that I’ve ever heard. You can just feel it. But I wrote it off to

good vibes and warm Florida weather, or the very clean acid we took. Listening to it now – it really was one of the best I’ve heard. This is the first I’ve heard this since being at the show in ’88 and I can’t wait to get home to listen to it again through my better speakers. Who cares about the lackluster sound quality - the memories will make up for that. I need to give it a five for nostalgia. Gone are the days...

Decent enough, but don't spend too much time.
1st Set: Tunings last about 1:09 before a low-key grooving "Touch." "Minglewood"'s wheels are spinning rapidly on its axis while the band makes a minor
...
personality imprint. "Row" is nicely laid out but nothing memorable. However, "All Over Now" sounds particularly perky and playful. Thanks Brent and your Hammond. "Brown-eyed" is a bit thick with molasses, plenty for women with some paunch to their booty-shaking. There's plenty of life in "Masterpiece" as evidenced by Jerry's stridently firm harmonizing. "Bird" floats on quite harmlessly...moving at a pleasant pace but never ripping through my cerebral cortext whereas "Promised" shines brightest away from Bobby's oft-forgotten lyrcis and into the climactic jam. 2nd Set: Let's slink with a seemingly meek "China" but in actuality has a strudy backbone and luck due to well-timed chords. Brent's a little too busy on the keys when Jerry should be making the statement (3:47 - Rider") Otherwise it's standard goodness. Wow, this is the first "Saint" in a long while - perhaps the first in '88 and maybe since 'Lost' was retired. An enthusiastic rocker but Bobby, please - only use the cussing (6:23)if the intent behind the sung lyrics are genuine...since it's been awhile since the song has been played, I'll buy your intent. Time to calmate with the tribute to good ol' Lenny, "He's Gone." It's spirited especially Bobby during the outro. The ten minute "Drums" fots the norm whereas the "Space" is rather easy on the ears setting up a rollicking straight-ahead "GDTRFB." "Miracle" is fine but doesn't make a lasting impression besides its standard over-the-top lyrics. Speaking of over-the-top check out the stop and start seemingly never-ending "Hey Jude Reprise" after a well-worked "Fantasy." Well, it was for a reason cause that's all folks. An ehhh "Black Muddy" ends the show. Barely 3 stars

Good songs, good sound, mediocre chops
My first Dead show. In college at "The U" at the time. Sound Quality = 3.75 -ish. It's SBD with big fat punchy bass - but it's a little less crisp and
...
sparkly than the best SBD recordings tho. Performance = 3 stars. China Cat/Rider is a muddled clusterfuck. Could it be the worst ever? I leave it to more senior DeadHeads to opine. Song Selection = pretty standard. Nice BMR encore.
By and large this is a solid, if not particularly special, show. It's not a must-have, but it is a good-enough-to-have. 3.75 stars

Hot time in Miami
A very good overall show. China/Rider is possibly the hottest I've ever seen. Row Jimmy has always been a fav of mine, as well as Brown-eyed Women.

Real nice Masterpiece, and Dear Mr Fantasy rounds out a very hot show, gonna give it 5 stars, but it's really probably a 4 1/2
