Jerry Tripping from Acid Laced Cake
In one of his final interviews JG talks about eating a dosed cake on accident and thinking the audience was out to kill him. He decided to play for his
...
life and did so ever since that event. He mentioned that it was a benifit show put on by some “hippies” at the Fillmore AFTER Bill Graham stopped running the Fillmore, and that it was a strange event due to who was on the bill with them. Does anyone know if this is the show he was talking about? This is the last benifit the GD played at the Fillmore that i am able to identify. But according to Wikipedia, the Fillmore was under Bill Graham until 7/4/71. Based on JG comment, this acid fueled gig he played is a critical moment in his playing career. Help!?! 3/3/71 Fillmore West – Airwaves/People's Radio benefit

Aside from an absolutely mammoth Other One and a rockin' Good Lovin' (and yes, it's great to hear Pigpen's organ), this is an average-to-good show. Deadheads,
...
please don't tell people how/why to write their reviews: they write them for themselves, not for you, and that's the way it's supposed to be, so get used to it. To hear the anti-democratic disrespect for other people's reasons for liking or disliking something coming out of the fans of a band that was all about free personal self-expression is odious and embarrassing, so shut up and write what you feel and let others do the same. If I want to base my reviews on the fact that I'm constipated today, I can, and there's nothing you can do about it, and that's the reason why there are reviews in the first place. Why don't you call a cop about it?

For fans of Pigpen's Hammond B-3!!!
After the departure of Tom Constanten in 1970, it seemed like Pigpen failed to step up as the sole organ player (I think Pigpen had quit the organ while
...
TC was there, and only played percussion and harmonica). From February to December 1970, and into early 1971 there was very few contributions from Pigpen on the organ. But somewhere in 1971, he started to get more involved, adding keyboard flourishes to the new tunes such as "Truckin" "The Other One" and "Bertha." These parts are extremely apparent in this show, where the organ is very high in the mix. If you love to hear what Pigpen's organ actually sounded like, this is the show to get.

Great show, but the cut in between drums and The Other One cuts out the bass line that begins the song! Listen to it. The bass line starts at the end of

drums and by the time The Other One starts up the song is past that part. That is why I don't like the starts and stops between songs on this site. But I'd rather have this than nothing!

What? It sounds fine...this ain't no Audience tape...man.
Hey man, this show sounds fine, sure it has some mix problems, but hey...that's how we know its an authentic "LIVE" recording with real live "hippies"
...
at the controls. They got the sound right about 98% of the show...or more...so lighten up, relax it's free...this ain't no audience tape, and besides... If I am not mistaken, that ORGAN was being played by Pigpen...nice to hear his chops if you ask me...we get 3 Pigpen songs anyways. A must have for all collectors of 1971. Stereo soundboard recording, occasional panning issues, and level issues...what else is new? (very, very minor except last three tracks with lower volume level, more tape hiss but an incredible GOOD LOVIN'). Last 3 tracks: I'm A King Bee, Greatest Story Ever Told, & Good Lovin' have lower volume level and more tape hiss Jerry plays a solo using his whah-whah pedal on Greatest Story Ever Told, which goes into JOHNNY B. GOODE Johnny B Goode is not listed in the playlist I downloaded. .....The whole show is worth listening to and downloading..... Wharf Rat is unusually good, Garcia is still using the Whah-Whah pedal on Sugar Magnolia...I always liked that...and of course PIGPEN! Pigpen, the only Front Man the DEAD ever had. I'm downloading it...thanks for the love...Pigpen and the boys are putting out...when did they not? EAT, DRINK, BE MERRY AND LISTEN TO THE GRATEFUL DEAD. 5 STARS, low volume level on last three tracks made up by incredible show...listen to GOOD LOVIN'...I did. OW! Sure, man if the last three tracks were less hissy, and the level was louder it would be perfect...don't tell me, tell it to the hippies that were too stoned to turn the damn knob up on the tape machine...maybe someday we will get the last 3 tracks in perfect soundboard audio, and maybe you will win lotto. THANKS FOR THE LOVE.
