This is so beautiful!
This is so beautiful.
This is the type of thing I wish were included on Dave's Picks.
The Dead are doing things great right now, but I would love to see to see later shows celebrated like the earlier ones.
This might as well is worth the price of admission alone :)

"New York got the ways and means"
Possibly another overlooked show for many. Jerry is really in great spirits this entire show and it shows.
I will just focus on the second set. One of the better latter day China> Riders. Jerry puts that extra spark into it. Garcia's vocals are sweet except for the miscues and they are almost in every song expect Might as Well :P
Jerry continues to lay down many sweet solos all night long too.
A decent Women are Smarter that really picks up at the end.
Second set So Many Roads were always played well and this night is no different. A strong sweet rendition.
An up beat Truckin' with Jerry the only one at the peak... opps! Did someone say meatball in a previous review?
Post space features a cranking Miracle into a stellar SOTM.
Jerry just rages on the guitar at the end for almost 2 minutes.
Pure ecstasy.
I still prefer the one from Atlanta on this tour but this one is a close second.
Good Lovin' is not as good as one would hope for. I would suggest 9/26/91 for that fix.
Vince is really good this entire show as well. His tones are natural sounding and he adds much to the mix.

Well Played
We all know Nassau is a pain in the ass 2 get 2. And the ventilation is horrendous, but was a great show none the less. The Gestapo squad in the lot from earlier years subsided a bit and overall was a great time. Yes Jerry flubbed a bit, but Shakedown opener says it all. Not 2 mention the Might As Well 2 close the set. 2nd set was money.

1st set is great sound. This was my first Nassau show. It sounds better on tape than it did there. Jerry definetley flubs up just about every lyric to just about every tune, but he nails his guitar parts very well all around. 5 star sound, 3 to 4 star performance IMHO.
Second set is AUD source.
The Might As Well is MIGHTY SWELL!!! 1st one since 6-17-91 Giants.

I dig that Might As Well
probably not if that had it in rotation but they don't and they do a good job on this one. Jerry sounds like he's having fun singing it, not just going through the motions.

Was there, loved it...
Sure the first set wasn't as long as some..but what may have lacked in quantity was made up for in quality. I agree with the reviewer below that Bobby Q either makes or breaks a Shakedown and this night he made it...you could tell from the tuning previous to the opener he was anxious to let those licks out. Great Lil' Red Rooster in there as well...some fine work by Jerry and some great support by Vince.
The crowd never saw Might as Well coming...1st one since 91 (and cowinky-dinkely, the last one). Jerry nailed the lyrics and the solos and brought that enery right into the second set...to which Hornsby showed up for.

UNDERRATED!!!
This show kicks ass. I was there. When Weir is on, Shakedown achieves a higher level - an auditory celebration beyond compare (see 6-30-85). He's on tonight - easily one of his best. His downbeat sets the tone for the tune. Of course, Jerry smokes too.
The Might As Well and SOTM were well over the top. I finally saw the pure potential of SOTM, and I liked it...I liked it a lot! Jerry shreds!!
The Might As Well could not be better (OK, maybe 3-20-91, which was almost obscene in its intensity). As killer filler, I'll bet these tunes outshine the source CD.
Don't believe most of the reviewers, including the Compendium (reviewing a lame AUD), this show is worthy. Hey Doug, check out a crispy SBD .
I probably give this show a 4, but the 5 is given to pump up the lame rating of this underrated gem.

Not that Bad!
I like this show especially the shakedown opener! Listen again! Also, you can sometimes find the First set for sale on Ebay as "Broken Promises". (Can't be that bad!)

SOTM
I enjoyed the show personally...not the best played, but fun. Although the SOTM is aboslutely amazing..it was shortly after Jerry had married and Deborah Koons and I think his happiness really shined thru on this. She was on the whole tour with him I just read too....def. showed.

Oy
You really couldn't ask for a better setlist, and the recording is very good....
HOWEVER, the performance is awful, as Jerry not only misses at least one line per song, but the band is totally out of sync....
another meatball from '94
