I was a-wanderin'...
...and I came across this show. I happen to like the '93 shows in spite of all their faults, and this one looked promising in part because the reviewers seem to exhibit a level of criticism that is realistic and not predicated upon the "every show is a great show" myth that too many Deadheads con themselves into believing.
Yep, Jerry's voice is weak (which would not be as apparent in an aud tape), but that Sunshine opener is as bright and lovely as we could expect, and ya' gotta give them good grades for taking it on in the first place.
I won't rate each song as it is better to look at the whole presentation, so by the by I am really happy to listen to this one, which is a lot more than I can say for some shows of this era that I actually attended.

musicianship
Superior musicianship on Other One.
crescendo of flowing energy, and rhythm; the band is gelled as one unit; true Grateful Dead. Vince is there but he is just playing, not showboating...which is great, cause thats when he is of value.
I match the quality of this collective sound to most any; purely for the unity of insane sound. Anyone doubting 90's Dead has got to give this Other One a close ear. They were in command of the sound and their instruments. Jerry's clean sounding, almost acoustic effect in this era is "ON". I remember this Boston Garden run, and i know the band enjoyed it. this is one of the shows when Jerry peeked out from behind his glasses and made eye contact with you. not to mention, he danced a bit on NFA. Wharf Rat always sounds better in Boston for some reason, i think it has something to do with the Charles River. true some tunes on this show i'll take or leave, but the Other One is testament to talent

Nice
Inspired playing for Set 1, a bit meandering though. By O1 and NFA they're having fun. A pretty damn good '94. Jerry dogs a verse of HC Sunshine, and he's starting to push the vocals a bit more than usual, his voice is sometimes sadly thin. The cigs and the dragon were definitely catching up with him. Poor bastard.
I was lucky enough to get backstage and sit in front of the front row barrier for set 2. I vividly recall Jerry goofing on Bobby's Buddy Holly impersonation during NFA. Have some nice shots of Jerry looking down over his glasses right into my camera, and of Vice doing his Muppet best.
A good show. Well worth the DL time.

Worth the Download
I am on a 256 DSL and 1GB takes roughly 8 hours for me to download. I have no regrets about spending a day on this show. The sound quality is 5 stars. The setlist is 5 stars. The only thing keeping me from rating the entire show at 5 stars is that Jerry's voice is definitely sounding a little rough throughout the show.

Pretty damn sweet...
I saw the whole Boston run, and don't remember thinking this show was as good as I find it now. Definitely one of the best H.C. Sunshines I saw - nice & tight with a peppy tempo. First set is tasty, except for the dreadful Easy Answers. Second set gets sloppy, but all is redeemed with a strong post-drums stoked by a truly sick Garcia solo in the Other One. This SBD mix also sounds *really* good to my ear, better than many of this era. Crispy, energetic and well worth a download.
