1994 is alright
Hey ya'll,stop dumping on '94 so much, there is a lot of gold to be mined in EVERY year the boys have been jamming,up to and including 2014..check out the Bird song from this show, and everything from the Boston run in the fall, plus hidden gems from summer tour...so for those who say the 90's "sucked", would you rather listen to today's club jams and processed pop? Now THAT would suck. I'll take '94 dead over most other music, thank you!

I was there
Went to all 3 nights in ATL and all 4 in '95. Liked the set lists from these 3 nights. Bird Song rocks (Jerry liked to play that one in ATL) Mail ordered for tickets and got the hook up with 5th row for 3/30 show and decent tix next 2 nights. Writing this wishing we could do it all over again.

I was there.
This late week trio of shows at the Omni were quite good, especially for this tour. The April 1st show was one memory I will never forget. I love drums but usually tolerate space. This space, however, was super super trippy. So, trippy that I almost thought I was having a flashback or something. Just good herb and great sound, but, worth it since not many spaces are really special ones but this one was. If I could upload a pic, I would. One of our buddies snapped a shot of the other 4 of us huddled together trying to sink lower than the seats because the space was so overpowering. Just a good memory with 100's more.

Surprise!
This generally positive review may in fact be due to my extremely low expectations going into it. My nerdy (but simple) program to come up with a random show (based on shows per year) told me to go to 1994. So I picked a show from today's date, because most 94 shows suck balls. Much to my surprise, this show didn't.
Not to say that it's a great show because it's got some really sloppy moments (Picasso Moon especially). I did enjoy many of the songs and thought that Jerry's voice actually didn't sound so bad for 1994. Deal, China Cat, He's Gone, and Bird Song are all performed quite nicely. No top 10s here but solid versions nonetheless. The drums>space is also quite nice. Unlike many people, I like the later drums>spaces for some reason. Maybe tonight it's because I've got the show on headphones and the effect of the sound changing from one ear to the other is just plain spooky. I'm listening to it again as I type this...I feel like I'm floating in space...
back to earth
charlie miller board, so naturally it's got good sound. 5 stars for sound, but my star rating is mostly for performance. It's a three and a half star performance overall, but the sound (and the fact that it's a bright moment in 1994) bumps it up to a 4.

Wow, Deal
What a great version of Deal. What a hell of a jam. See, whenever the Dead challenged themselves (in this case, playing a song like Deal at an unusual slot in the set list), they always caught fire. Good job, Jerry.

best time at a show
I was only 14 when I went to this show. The guy I was suppose to ride with got in trouble with his parents, so my friend Scott and I went with none other than my MOM..YEP...we were not too excited about it. Now I'm 26. I only saw 6 "real" Dead shows. I followed Phish from 97' through 03'and have seen maybe a dozen SCI shows. To this day, that very sober evening of 4/1/94 in Atlanta-with my mother- is the best experience I have ever had at ANY show by ANY band. The image of my mom dancing around during "Rider" still dances in my mind...anyway, on to the show: My favorite post 91' Deal. Bird Song was good too. China > Rider was just OK. The rest of the set is bland until Wharf Rat...this is also one of my favorite versions of this song. The Brokedown is beautiful. Being there really does change things I guess. I hardly ever listen to this show, yet in "real time" it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Show recollections
I remember that Jerry came out on stage before the first set wearing purple shorts, and messed around with his guitar. When the first set started they were having PA problems (volume too low, bad mix), but these were gradually corrected. Despite that minor problem, it was actually a pretty good show!

Not a terrible show
This show is not as good as 3/30/94, but there are some listenable highlights though and a couple nice surprises. The first surprise was the Deal after a sloppy Picasso Moon to open set 1. Deal has some nice spots in it. The BT Wind with Weir on acoustic is good, no significant flub-ups and a solid performance by Weird. This BT Wind was also highlighted on the Grateful Dead Hour. The most exciting part of the show is the Bird Song -- Jerry really stretches out. Unfortunately, Jerry was turned down in the PA mix throughout the show and it is the same way on the board tapes so you have to listen closely. There's no huge peak in the Bird Song but at least it gets out there. The Box of Rain in the 2nd set is well executed. The second (semi)-surprise is the That Would be Something. There's not that much to it but it's a nice thought from Jerry before drums. The pre-drums Estimated > He's Gone > TWBS is ok, but there are no chill bump moments. The rest of the show is tolerable. Decent show for '94.
3 star performance, 2 stars for sound quality because Jerry is too low in the mix. The sbd and aud sources all suffer from this though b/c Jerry just wanted to be turned down, I guess. :^(

That "Was" Something
What a blast! Bouncing back from a dismal Thurs night show, the boys gave us an April Fool's treat. The first set began sloppily, but tighted up as it progressed. Get this show for the smooth and soulful "He's Gone"-> "That Would Be Something" tamdem that was featured on an instalment of The Grateful Dead Hour.

The only floor ticket in our group...lovin' it!!
I was in Atlanta this week with some folks who did not get mail order for this night, and of course, with the physical assault of Ticketmaster by this point, tix were very scarce by this beautiful night. This one guy in our "group" was particularly aggravated. I didn't even mention I was holding the only floor seat that night, but since I went through with the process of mailordering for everybody and got just one, well, I have to say I got a tad greedy. After all the extras on the 1st night...needless to say, come April Fool's the tickets were about as common as a local plague. I miracled two lucky folks on Sunday, so that ticket never left my pocket. I just kept making excuses. Next thing I know, I'm on the floor boogieing my ass off to a HOT Deal, wondering if this was the end of the set already It was only the second song!!! With the lights in full rotation at this moment, I looked over to the seats to my side and saw good 'ol buddy Matty Z dancin' away. I waved. He waved and gave me the 'ol smirk seeing that I DID make it in. The others didn't make it in that night. I didn't feel too bad though cause I watched each card and played it slow. I ended up sitting next to an old friend of a friend. He starts handing me some of these interesting looking little stems and caps and well, the rest is history. I will never forget that sweet Deal goin' on and on and on. And, oh, the heat I took for that seat...one of the best times of my life.
