Queen Jane extra effort
Usually an alright or at best so-so Bobby Bob cover has some nice extra effort tonight, making it an exceptionally great version, and my favorite of this

cover. Brent is all over the place and candy coating in the late 80s fashion the way he does best! Even tho this show isn't a super jammed out 3 hour show, it still rocks my socks! I can't even believe the fire that came out of summer 89' thru summer 90', some of my favorite GD.

It's nice but ...
Too many 5 star ratings. It's a good show- no doubt- and a great listen - quality is pretty damn good. I love the line up as well - a somewhat rare opener
...
- Truckin' starts the second set followed by an actually well played Wang Dang (especially rare for second set)and Cumberland, which makes several second set appearances but is more often found in first sets. With the exception of Crazy Fingers, it doesn't really feel like you are listening to a second set until Eyes. Like most shows, i could go on complimenting the highpoints and the great selections, but overall, this is just a very good show. Not a superb spectacular one, but a very good one. 4 stars with high recommendations to listen to.

built to last through deal is quite nice. i actually like this queen jane quite a bit. second set pre drums work is VERY nice, with a good crazy fingers, ripping cumberland and a good eyes...actually a very good eyes. this run at the cal expo was kind of the end of the road for me...went back east to school after this and missed the greek shows. wish i could have seen those for sure. saw 20 - 30 more shows, but this was my last "tour." Not a bad way to go out...

sounds good vocally. My personal favorite Stella Blue is 7/13/84 at the Greek Theater, then again that entire second set is phenomenal!

too big. The first set was great it just went on forever, it seemed at least until the sun went down. Bertha was the perfect opener, Jerry and Brent had lots of fun, Happy Birthday me. I just came from the Alpine shows and this first set was probably the best of all six shows. The band seemed to be loose and having fun this night, Cumberland in set 2 is always sweet. I wished for a Baby Blue and Jerry granted it for me. Thanks Jerry For all of the memories and great music.

i think this is why Dylan respected him so much, he had great arrangements, arranged Dylan's songs brilliantly, such great timing and tone/pitch, that makes you want to listen and play over and over again what a cool guy too, his folk stuff (for children as well) and irish ballads stuff is just so cool peace to Jerry

A1 run all the way, and the last great parking lot scene??
I can't believe no one has mentioned the parking lot scene at Cal Expo in '89...it was the last truly free scene I can remember! They let us hang out for
...
three full days, and it was indeed a free-for-all...great sunny weather, nicely protected lot, endless jamming and hijinks everywhere...a truly wonderful vibe, that just-us-heads feeling that started to fade soon after... I remember Saturday afternoon, hanging out in front of the van and a friend's winnebago as a cop drives by along one of the many paths between cars and tents, looking around in awe...and suddenly I think, I need to talk to this guy! My friends see me jump up and stop him, and they cringe...but my gut was right, the cop was just curious and amazed, we talked for twenty minutes about Sacramento and life and music, and he asked me to explain "how long this has been going on!" He was a cool guy, as many cops can be, if just given a fair shake (like we all want, remember?). To whit, as we talked, at least four or five people wandered by smoking openly, and he never flinched, just smiled...one guy even asked me if I wanted a sheet, until he noticed the cop...who just laughed and said, "You probably want to keep moving!" How cool is THAT?!? It went on all weekend...but when we came back next year, there were no friendly cops around, less of a scene, more hassles, DEA hiding behind every bush...the love was fading fast... But the Cal Expo '89 run was truly one for the ages! It was Jer's birthday run, and every set got better, six in a row!! This was the only run I ever saw with that consistency. Jer was on the whole time...one of '89's better first sets here, and a mighty fine Stella. Nice small venue too, maybe a 10K racetrack-type place, easy to waltz up front, and later on sit in the back bleachers up top and watch it all unfold as the stars came out. Truly a treat. Thanks to the good folks of Sac and that way cool brother cop...you rock, buddy!! This was what touring was meant to be.

and i could actually here some of us singing it. Turn it up real loud and take a listen. Space is actually a nice little midi solo from Jerry that is quite sweet. The first set is really rockin' with the Bertha>Greatest story openner and a nice Althea. Jerry is giving a lot of energy to this show and I agree it is a beautiful Stella and the Baby Blue encore is one of my favorites! Definitly worth a listen.
