Although some noted this show at the time as perhaps the best of the pseudo-NYE run (lots of Bay Area fans were happy to see a Casey Jones), it seems

to have had a lot more attention since official release. That said, I wouldn't put it above 12/3 or 12/6 (and March was probably the peak month of '92), but, okay, sure, it's the best of the run, overall. Take this 1st set with the next night's 2nd set and you have the best show of Fall '92. First Set. The end jam is money on Feel Like a Stranger, though Bobby isn't in the mix yet. Brown Eyed Women has a great solo. After a decent-enough couple, Stuck Inside of Mobile may be 92's best - Jer is still on for Row Jimmy as well and Let it Grow is the peak way to end a set. Second Set. Samson is good but the rest pre-Drums is meh. Space was great at this time and inspired Jer to explore his MIDI. It smears into a great Dark Star - one of just 6 in '92. The rest is average and though Casey Jones was the first since its June return, they clearly hadn't practiced for its appearance. People go goo goo for Gidget's Dark Star but Casey was rare. In my many years of touring I never saw one (though I did shows this month, not this one). There was one more a few months later, then poof! But you had to be there. 1st Set: B- 2nd Set: C Overall = 3 Stars Highlights: Brown Eyed Women - Jer having good show Let it Grow - a point where they all come together Dark Star - one of 92's three best SOURCES: Good matrix, stonebear SBD or Dick's #27.

missed lyrics throughout. The vibe is totally there from Stranger through Casey Jones. Yep, don't underestimate the first set. Great show all around, but I gotta point out BEW and Samson. This is one monster of a '92 show. It's almost flawless. It's too bad the soundboards are off limits:( I doubt I'll buy it even as smoking as this show is. I already have so many great shows of high quality...

need some schooling in the GD archives. Every song is played to perfection (with the exception of a small flub in Casey Jones....which is minor) Jerry's voice also sounds really good all around. Personally I love every single song in this show but the last 3 songs of the first set (Stuck Inside of Mobile, Row Jimmy, Let It Grow) are incredible and worth mentioning. Listen to Jerry's solos in Row Jimmy. The Shakedown is one for the ages. In my opinion its one of the best/hottest version they ever played. The whole band is just feeding off each other, trading licks everywhere, especially towards the end Bobby breaks out some SICK riffs. Out of all the versions of Shakedown Ive heard from 78-95 this is the one of the most powerful and creative of them all. (11-24-78 - Capitol Theater - Passaic NJ is really hot and so is 10/25/79 - New Haven Coliseum - New Haven, CT) Playing in the Band has some excellent jamming and Stella Blue is beautiful. I believe this is the 2nd to last time Casey Jones is played. This is just one of those shows you can listen to over and over. The whole show just has a good energy about it. Highly recommend getting Dicks Picks 27.

were good shows and not so good shows up until this one. A lot of people were tired & feeling a little disapointed w/ the shows leading up to this one. But when they came out on stage there was a buzz and no denying the electricty (as cheesy as that sounds)that flowed through the band and straight throu us. Every member in the band that night hit each note, each chorus on que, Jerry actually remembered the words to all the songs. I remember being in the hallway next to the speakers and stopped dancing to look around and what I saw was beautiful..Every single person was up and dancing..the ones that shocked me the most were the groups of people who weren't on tour anymore to hear their favorite band..only to hang out & get high. But even they were dancing & shouting & clapping..people who weren't at the show might look at the set list and think it wasn't all that spectacular. All I can say is it was definitely one of those shows you just had to be at to truly understand and appreciate their performance. That SHAKEDOWN ST was just sick, Jerry & Bobby going at it feeding off the other and the guitar towards the end and that was Bobby! I don't know the last time I heard Bobby step up and experiement. Anyway, I truly feel blessed to have been a part of that night it will forever be etched in my head.

for the quizzical or interested... there's an article published in "their" media which, when deciphered, (IMHO) adequately describes what was going on
...
during the second set of this show mentioned by so many people. It was a biographical piece in "The New Yorker" magazine just after Jerry's death, during the wave of media tributes. A little scary when mainstream critics are conscious and able convey such things in print -- but, being in babylon, not allowed to be accurate. (Par 3 is simple ignorance and disrespect)

Diamond in the Rough
I think it's just one of the more solid shows from the era...for those of us who like Vince (some of us do) and also like the way Jerry's guitar and synths
...
sounded in the 90's (not to mention the many new songs) it's nice to hear something consistent, passionate, and without too many clams! Obviously if you hold it up to say 3/30/90 or 5/7&8/77 you can see a big difference, and there's no comparing the energy of the band with their younger days in any era. But the boys can still do it to this day...those that are left!

Out of 100+ shows I ever saw with 75%+ being in the Bay Area this was a standout evening to be sure and probably one of the last times it seems everyone
...
was "On". This is one of those evenings that the band and crowd feed of each other to achieve those highs deadheads sought out of a show. From the first notes of Phil on Shakedown to the Casey the band was in the groove.

Amazing
Just one of the best shows I ever saw. Oakland was rocking. Casey is the moment most folks will remember, but there is some lovely work along the way.
