This is polished with the glitz of guitar and vocally is really starting to show the vocal additions to the end.
Agree on The MSG 1994 run I thoroughly enjoyed the SOTM. The S/F the night before as well, An all star run for late 90s

Great show. Killer mix. LOVE Phil's thumping bass throughout. And...a very good Standing on the Moon. But best ever? Nope. Not even close. Have you listened to 10-5-94? Please do so, then revise your reviews. ASAP. Chop chop.

Subject: Once more for the road??
I was there... and I was a fresh faced 18 years old. These shows were the beginning of the love I have carried for the band, family, and livelihood.
I went to 4 or the 6 shows.. first year of college was just down the road. Crisp sound.. very clear those nights.
This show was memorable in 3 ways..
A. Waiting for Phil to sing on Maggie's Farm had everyone cracking up.
B. Saint of Circumstance, what a driving tune.
C. SOTM was truly the best moment, when I REALLY felt it.. I never knew it would be considered one of the greatest ever at that time.
I was so new to this thing that I thought every show was going to at least come close... as we all know.. you win some, you lose some.. and that would come later.
Bought and dosed LSD on all 4 nights.. and it made for an experience I hope to relive on my way out.. down that white light hallway into the heavens.
I'd like to meet the boys there.. sit in.. and thank them.
Unless they out live me!.. 50 year in 2015!! What a ride!!
all the best to ya'll..

I recall the place just erupting at the end of SOTM and wondering what else can they do. Then they came out with a Rain that the recordings just don't do justice to. Phil had the old Garden vibrating and the whole crowd was just giddy. Boy I miss Jerry.

I agree. Jerry really nailed that one (SOTM)and Vince's trumpet keyboards added an unparalleled, unprecedented sound. Who could ask for more!

I was in the tapers section for this show, and agree with all '+' comments about SOTM this night. It stands as a landmark recording for me. Jerry was belting it out, crowd was completely insane, lights and sound was unreal. I felt like I was in the Maxell Chair w/ my hair blowing back. My aud recording captures the entire Garden going crazy towards the end, wow.....

After a mixed bag for the Rex show the previous night, the boys come back stronger with a remarkable show.
Jack Straw is high energy and Jerry is on the money as he raises the energy, Bob cuts off the peak jam, but it is still a great version. Jerry goes right into Althea and delivers a amazing version. Phil this entire run is so loud in the mix it is a double bonus.
They deliver a text book reading of Walkin' that features a good solo by Vince, who by this time as really found his niche with the band with his organ tones being much more complimentary.
A early set High Time is beautiful and Jerry really is a great space, and Phil being highly present too.Vince adds some sweet harmonies as well.
A nice Me & My Uncle leads into a set stealing version of Maggie's Farm that was quite the treat at the time.To hear everyone sing " their" verse was always much fun. Jerry plays some awesome licks and some wicked plucking at points too.
A solid Lazy River Road continues the feel good vibe of this set.
Easy Answers, still new at this point, is played as well as it can be. The lyrics to this day are still hilarious to me. They close it out with a rock solid Don't Ease.
Set II from start to finish is one of the best of this run. A lively Aiko gets the Garden bouncing, and if you ever sat in the lodges in the old Garden they literally did bounce. The band delivers a rollicking version.
Saint is wicked good and the band powers through it nicely. The ending chorus is exceptional.
Jerry delivers another sweet ballad with Ship of Fools and Phil once again is with him every step of the way.
Truckin' starts off really good, with the band delivering a tight energetic version. Bob even sings the original "Sweet Jane" verse, but he totally spaces out the final verse and this seems to affect the peak jam, which the band completely messes up. Opps the only blemish on s strong set so far. They do rebound quickly and end it strongly.
The D/S is nothing outrageous but at around the 7 minute mark into drums it gets very cool and similarly at about the 9 minute mark during space.
They next deliver a rocking reading of Miracle, with Jerry vamping it up nice and Phil is a monster during it.
Then....Standing on the Moon
At the time this was the first version I would see live that would showcase the full potential of this song.I mean it is breath taking, inspirational, searing and it rocked!
The entire band raises to the occasion and they score!
The entire place was blown away, what a very special moment in GD history it was.
Then to blow us away with the encore too?
Man it was perfect.
People wonder why we LOVED this band with all of our hearts. Simple, just listen to this one.

but not the best I've ever heard. Still, really tight. It's a shame I can't find 3-31-94 to stream - I remember that as being the BEST (in an otherwise so-so show).
Okay, so some say the "BEST" and some say just standard-issue awesome. It has a lot to do with whether the reviewer was there. But hey, if it leads you to a good show, then what's the problem?

I had to jump in on the SOTM debate here. Sorry, strat this SOTM is THE BEST EVER. Vegas 95 and Shoreline 95 are PALE compared to this version. Reason being: Jerry's intense vocally and on the guitar with whaling. The Vegas and Shoreline SOTM are great, but Jerry is rather weak at the end, where here in Boston the SOTM was so intense the boys just left the stage because Jerry was spent emotionally after singing this version. I was third row for this show, and I must insist, I have listened to EVERY SOTM played, and this one is the best period.

I have to say I actually quite like the "best ever" notations. Not always correct (IMO) but generally the opinions on a best ever have directed me to a nice show. This IS an OUTSTANDING SOTM. There are only a few where you get Jerry wailing the vocals AND adding a lattice-climbing solo like this one...

not the "best ever" as proclaimed, but nice nonetheless...this is a much better source that the original aud I traded for eons ago...also 06-30-1995 is no-where near the best ever either...may not even be the best one that tour anyhow (check 05-19-1995, 06-02-1995)...it's a nice version nonetheless...beep beep...
Rain is always nice to hear, the rest of the show is mediocre

Hey Muddy69:
Did you listen to EVERY SOTM the Dead EVER did before you declared this one the best ever?
Enough with the best ever's. I see one at just about every show I read reviews from. At least provide some sort of contextual limits, like: Best SOTM of 1993 or of the 90's. To just make blanket declarations instantly turns me off to the rest of the review.
I agree it's good. Best EVER? Dunno, haven't heard ALL of them yet.
