I miss Alpine
Long waits on highway and a mess parking in a muddy field near venue. Baby crying on walk in and dad said, don't worry, just another touch opener. 😀 Sound on the lawn was better and 1st set ended with a giant Bird Song. Lawn was muddy and crowded, so 2nd set while rain fell, we moved closer to stage. Mainly viewed He's Gone through OMSN pretty close, nice Crazy Fingers. New wife had enough, bless her heart she is still with me, so we left during Quinn encore. Her Chevy Blazer got us out of the mud. I feel summer 90 lost something after a hot spring tour, the next 2 shows were ok too, but I don't know, band was tired? Changes in band feel or dynamics? Either way, the venue is a terrible, soulless place.

This first set is pretty thin. flubs and miscues. The Bird song borders on atrocious.
But talk about a major regrouping for set 2! Beautiful setlist and inspired playing

6 up
I can remember being sketched out by what seemed to be a shit load of undercover cops. So much so that I decided to leave the tour after this show with my freedom and not chance the next day. Unfortunately on my way back to Santa Cruz, after spending some time with my family in Chicago, I heard that Brent passed. I thought that it might be over or at least the band would take a break. Nope. I was slightly put off by that. I'm glad that a lot of people got to see the Dead after Brent, but it was never the same to me. Sorry Vince. Bruce Hornsby would have been cool, but Vince?Anyway, I bet that's how deadheads thought when Pigpen died or when Keith left the band.It was'nt the same for them either. As far as the gate crashing...I don't blame them. Obviously they really wanted to see Jerry. Kids will be kids, remember. Oh yea, the shows sound inside was terrible. Not a very good venue.

World Amp
I distictly remember the sky on this particular night. There were lots of swirling clouds and some rain too. What stands out the most is freakin a bit on the clouds that looked like tornados could popping out at any moment. Thanks to this I will always relate the few lines of Little Light to this show. "This could be just another highway, coiled up in the night.
You could be just another white-tail, baby, stranded on my brights". This was one of the worst venues ever period. I've heard the download and along with everyone else that was there... The download sounds way better than it did that night.

trying to get to the show
If I recall correctly, they did not open the parking lot to the venue and there was traffic backed up for miles on the highway. We parked on the exit ramp and ran across a soggy field to catch the first song. I think they started playing and realized there was a problem and stopped for a while until more people could pile in. We sat in the hot sun in a parked car on the highway for hours!

First show...miracled in...mind successfully blown
I was in college in Fargo, heard the Dead were "cool" and convinced a couple buddies we should drive to Chicago to check it out. Sold out, a gate opened at the venue and hundreds of people rushed it during the 2nd or third song. I was the last one through before they forced it shut. My mind was blown, changing the course of my personal history profoundly. I give this the highest rating simply because it was a once in a lifetime event and I am so glad to find it on Archive! Miracles do happen!

Would stand out in any other year from 1980-95
But in 1990, it's probably only average. The Dead recommitted themselves to jamming in the fall of 89, and it shows on one of the longest, most cosmic Bird Songs I ever heard in person. Scarlet is as good as I remember and Fire better. Check out the odd transition from Playin' into He's Gone (unfortunately, we were then stuck listening to He's Gone - not one of my favorites). More nice transitions in Miracle>Crazy>Fantasy. DMF was the final one, and though slower and not as pumped as 7/12, it still shone. A nice, jamming reentry into Playin' led to a weird transition to OMSN. Sound is fine on this.

This show is significantly better on tape than it was at Tinley. This was the venues first year in existence, and the sound stank just about anywhere you were. I had seats for all 3 nights in the pavilion, and it was pretty cruddy. The shows however were actually pretty well played in retrosopect, with the exception of Touch, which sounds straight out of 95.
Hey Mark Michaels, sorry to rip ya, but yeah it was always great to see kids scamming into shows that would have been better off at home than following the dead around being bums and mucking it up for all the people that actually were there to see the music. This gate-crasher problem was bad enough in the late 80's, but by 95 these vagrants had ruined it for everyone, including the band.

Finest Crazy
I quickly scanned my way through the tracks here while streaming the show. This is absolutely one of the finest middle day performances of Crazy Fingers. Jerry's singing is particularly clear, and the ensemble is just awesome. The band takes some interesting choruses on the instrumental between the verses; truly embracing the moment to the fullest. I hope this performance finds release in the future. Exquisite.
Dear Mr. Fantasy rages like none other. Scarlet contains passages that remind me of the extraordinary 2/26/90 deep sea adventure. This show is full of great moments. The band was generating hope, and looking to better days. Who could know that the most challenging times lay just around the corner?

This is worth downloading for Phil in Scarlet-- he's playing as many notes as Jerry and turned up in the mix. Birdsong and Crazy Fingers are also worth the time.

I grooved on this show as it was my first one,
and I'm really glad to be able to relive it in some small way. Good memories---Enjoyed the ticket(other one), the parking lot balloons, rain, and the guy sliding down the hill giving people muddy slaps on the back, Oh Yeah, the naked dancing chick(wearing nothing but mud) that was, unfortunately, hauled away. And lets not forget the fellow, next to us, with the warlock cloak and staff. Playing In The Band/One More Saturday Night left a smoking crater for months after-Jerry was classic on Touch Of Grey(as gate crashers scaled the fence like spiders)-Brett was obviously out there somewhere with Dear Mr.Fantasy. Will miss him as this was his 2nd to last show ever, I feel very lucky to have been there.

Worth a listen
Definitely not the greatest allaround show ever, but I think the Fire is one of the more intense versions 'i've heard. I really recommend it. Crazy Fingers is intense also. It's a clunky yet somehow wierdly powerful show. The Birdsong is very loose, but especially "out there". Don't diregard.

nice recording of a surprisingly good show
I didnt remember this as being that unusual of a show but it really is interesting. We actually didnt have that bad of a tinley experience, but it was hardly deer creek of a couple nights before. The set list is not your standard fair and the unusual crazy fingers after space is especially rife with Phil moments. He seems to be mescheviously messing with the rest of the band. Sound quality is pretty good, not stellar but totally acceptalbe.

Yeah, this place sucked. Big and getting in was a nightmare.....like one lane into the place. Missed the first few songs....Pretty sweet show actually, not a stunner but it ended very very well....have had an OK SBD over the yrs....clumsy in parts, like the Scarlet > Fire but a generally dope show. I give it 4 for the post drumspace activity. Some rate the next nights show, but I don't even remember it, doing it soon.

first show still unmatched
after almost 15 years of searching for this, i can finally hear it again. love this site! as my first show, this was a life changer. 11th row and having no idea what i was in for. the people sitting next to us were the best. as far as the show, i have been aquiring many shows over the years (mostly from recommendations), and hearing this again, i gotta say that there was really something special going on that night. the first set has intensity and the second just plain blows you away!
i can only hope finding some other gems will change my mind, but this for now is still "the" favorite.

Tinley Park 1990
This was the worst venue I have ever been to for a show. The sound was weak compared to Deer Creek. This was the first year for events at Tinsley Park. Sadly, this was Brent last shows. The first night had some nice energy and this board is worth the download. I liked this show best out of the three played in this hole.

Well, after the Deer Creek Shows...this was a slight letdown. But only slight! Wasn't too crazy about the venue, and the lawn was a bit muddy...but it was cool when during the first song about 50 kids made their own miracle climbing over the back fence to the crowds' delight and security's consternation.
This show will probably be most remembered as the last "Just a Little Light" show....but Dear Mr. Fantasy was also an equally great Brent moment for me. A good set list....highlighted by Friend of the Devil, Scarlet/Fire, Miracle and Crazy Fingers.
