Is there a cut in Let It Grow?
I usually spend my time at this site on the '68 to '71 years. But I'm glad I stumbled across this show - it brings back ... fond memories. Hash oil and Wake of the Flood. Lysergic acid and Nixon's "Saturday night massacre" (ask your parents).
I really miss Jerry.

ACTUALLY, to the person below me, i'd have to somewhat agree w/ cpt. cook here. garica misses a number of notes (in L.I.G., Half-step, and the first PITB
...
to name a few) and does seem to be having a relatively off night.
DESPITE this, the dexterity and beauty with which the band pulls of PITB>El Paso>PITB>DS Jam>Wharf>PITB>Dew is remarkable and this show is well worth a listen for many other reasons.

Just to clarify...WRS is in the wrong position on this stream. It's not after Morning Dew but rather it closes the 1st set after Brokedown Palace.

'73 is probably my favorite year, great set lists, an abundance of energy and many great performances. This one is right up there.
1st set shines and ... the "Wake of the Flood" material is played beautifully, harmonies and all. Concert-wise this show is excellent. Sound-wise...the sound overall is really good but there are some level adjustments to make and too many splices. I only wish I could here the entire show straight through.
Don't let this stop you from listening to this beauty and after all, what the heck do I know?? Still, 5 stars for show, 4 stars for sound rounds to a 5 anyway!

this show in my car and at home all weekend long!! I have only made it through TLEO so far and I can tell this show is gonna take me places I've never been. The first set so far is just perfect. But take a look at set II...damn I can not wait to hear that Playin>El Paso>Playin>Wharf Rat>Playin>Dew marathon!

This is such a great show - especially Half-Step through Dew. Sticklers for historical accuracy should note that the WR Suite actually was played to end
...
the first set - just after Brokedown Palace. The second set opened with Half-Step. After one of those incredible sequences of songs that makes us glad we're Deadheads, the boys continued the show with Truckin. To put it in it's correct order would take four cds.

the Dew, but gotta say the jam of Playin>El Paso>Playin'>Wharf Rat>Playin'>Dew is unreal, especially the space section, and the Dew is very solid as well (though not quite 6/18/74 or 5/8/77). The Sunshine does just that, so does the Half Step, and Big River rips. I haven't listened to the Truckin' jam yet, but even if it falls off a cliff, this is still an excellent show. The recording is a half-step high in pitch, which is normally a problem for me. The show's so good and the recording so clean otherwise that I'll ignore the pitch issue this time.

the night is very sweet. How spoiled we must be if this show is not a five-star! The playin' sequence is wonderful, then weather report. The ballads are so beautiful, and there are many of them, from the LLRain, Brokedown, Wharf Rat, Morning Dew, and the Encore Uncle John's caps it off. Add these to the Sugaree, BT Wind, Love Eachother... It is almost like a '73 with the mood of a '77. Perfect for me :)

This is a good little concert. Dire Wolf and BTWind were surprises, as neither are noted in the setlists in Deadbase V or X. In the Mexicali track, the

first forty seconds are a nifty little Mexican Hat Dance that Garcia whips up. Then Weir counts off and they do Mexicali.
Love Each Other has that early '73 lilt and bounce, though this one is slightly different to my ear than the others, a little jauntier. The tempo and structure remind one of Smoky Robinson's Second That Emotion (there is a splice around 2:30 in the middle of the solo, ouch).
In Jack Straw, Garcia is an exploratory mood. Check out his last few notes before they close out the tune, truly inventive, once of a kind.
A nice recording. At the beginning of Looks Like Rain, you can hear each note Weir and
Lesh play, a nice little duet.
Here Comes Sunshine, they get a very hypnotic bluesy jam going, you can't help but move to it.
Big River, god bless the drummer, what a snap. Great sound separation, Weir is nearly soloing, Keith has a great break.
Brokedown. They end it like they do on the album. And a very interesting lead from Garcia (starts high register). As poignant and real as it gets.
Half Step! Crisp. With some fuzzy-fat notes from Lesh. Throughout this part of the show Garcia is really hitting some wonderful, explorative notes, and displays a very nice feel. And a unique quick segue into Playin'.
People who only heard Keith in 1978 should really take a close listen to what he was capable of.

I'd read a lot of great things about this show, both here and on rmgd, so I had to download it. I have to say that, while the show is solid, I don't think
...
it's quite all it's cracked up to be. It's a nice show, and it certainly gets points for the setlist, but nothing really knocks me out other than the great Here Comes Sunshine in the first set. The Playin' seems rather ordinary. The Dew is pretty average for the era. I like the fact that there is a Truckin->Nobody's Fault->GDTRFB following the big "sandwich" jam, and that's probably my favorite part of the set. Taken as a whole, including the strong first set, I guess I'd call it above average, but not outstanding.

Being a Denverite...this one obviously holds a special charm for me.
But there is something for everyone.
The second set though for me is just incredible...loose ... and tight at the same time.
They do all kinds of playin's through the years...all kinds of sequences, but this one is Really Special...I'm at a loss for words

This show just sparkles from beginning to end. I'll be listening to this show when I'm 99. The energetic playing in Jack Straw, RR Blues and HC Sunshine
...
let you know they are ON tonight. The Brokedown and well jammed Let it Grow make the 1st Set all anyone could ask for. But the best is yet to come. The extended jam sandwich of Playin>El Paso>Playin>Wharf Rat>Playin>Morning Dew is quite simply one of the all-time best examples of the Dead's musical artistry. It blows my mind every time I listen to it, and often hear new elements I hadn't heard before.The fine Truckin>Nobody's Jam that follows is almost anti-climatic. This is a show you'll want to add to your 1973 collection for sure!
