My First
show also. I was a Junior in High School and had been listening to them for about 9 months by now.As a few of us walking to the Civic Center from across town a guy on a bike comes up and says here they come in a van. We were so young we got all happy.. Well sure enough here comes a van and the light just turned. Guess who?Yup all of them right there. I went up to the passenger window and yelled Bobby and made a smoking a joint motion. He laughed and they drove away.I also remember the poor guy in front of me. I keeped asking him the names of the songs . If they weren't on Europe 72 or Skeletons I hadn't heard them. Of course I spent the whole show thinking to myself , I hope the play The Golden Road To Unlimited Devotion. Hey it may not be Hampton 89 or even Hartford 90 but I still have great memories of this night.
Birdsong is well worth a listen.

You could do worse
Help- I'm stuck in 1986 and I can't get out! But seriously now, all these shows are starting to sound good after so many years. This is a gorgeous sounding s'board.

Eratic expression
The quality of performance even outweighs the quality. Bobbys is playing behind the beat alot tonight and is coloring the music with strange broken chords and effects. It might not be the banjo Jerry or high energy jerry` but it's a spacier jerry and he's going along for the ride. The band on a whole is very creative. They are not playing chiche parts of songs. They sound confused and I love it. Often times I find the greatest art is expressed in pain and ugliness. You can tell there's something wrong. The Grateful Dead doesnt have to wear a happy face everynight. For everybody else probably being happy is important but not for artists. They are a race completley apart from normal
people.4 for performance and 4 for sound quality. Let it grow sounds fast and paranoid!!

Very High Quality Recording
I caught the first 5 shows of this tour, they may be tired here at the end, but I think the sound quality and the rare Brent tune make this show well worth the download.

These were the last two shows of this east coast tour. I think they were a bit wiped out. So was I! But still some good music and of course a great time.

TROUBLE AHEAD JERRY IN RED
When I was at this show it was the first time i saw him in anything other than Black. I thought it was cool, little did I know....
Don't need love is interesting as well as a rare mid to late 80's supplication. The ole boy is staring to drag at this stage and it shows vocally

Different day, different time ...
Maybe the astute observation of the "coked up band" explained the uneveness in energy level of shows during the 80's. One has to wonder what they would've sounded like if they weren't so wasted (depending on how wasted one was when seeing the show). I think the sound quality is really great, and that is an important aspect of enjoying a musical performance.

C'mon!
This show is not as bad as what you may read above! Heck Gan's even played a portion of the first set on dead hour....and I he usually picks good stuff....anyway....because I remembered the GrEaT UP BEAT IKO I wanted the whole show...I believe what we are hearing is a very coked up band! The let it grow is break neck speed! Listen, download supplication jam into let it grow...if you like that download it all!

Does not rock
Slow tempo, fast tempo, no tempo, yes. But no dang rock at all and precious little roll. It just kinda sits there and stares at ya.
Also -- Weir's guitar is mixed way too high even over Garcia's solos.

This show is underated
I was at this show as well and came away with a much different opinion than the dude who wrote the review above mine. Was this the best Dead show ever? Of course not. The Bird Song is beautiful, very well played and the supplication jam was a nice treat. The sound quality of this DL is excellent and this show deserves serious consideration. Most heads will enjoy this show.

Ominous
I was at this show and I remember it wasn't all that great - and now it sounds worse than I remember. Blown transitions, halting tempos, a hideous train wreck going into the second verse of "Let It Grow." Maybe it was just Jerry's approaching coma, but you get a dreadful feeling of deepening gloom listening to some shows from this era.
