I was there and as usual had an amazing time. The scene was headed for the worse. From what I remember of this show the band passed out fliers before the show voicing their disapproval with the turn. When they left without an encore I took this as a form of punishment and the point was well taken. The scene HAD changed and the new form of phishheads were fucking it up. This date was also the only show I remember seeing any act of violence or un-kindness in the parkinglot, I witnessed someone grab a bowl full of cash from a vendor that was selling felafel and dash into the crowd. Couldn't believe it. The band played pretty well, I always thought Jerry was the best even on his off days. His style evolved like anyone should with a career that spanned 4 decades.

Hey Hey Hey, this was a funn ass show fo sho.Bobby pulls double duty, Jerry has some nice flubs but heats up and still plays like Jerry, The bass is exelente, even though there was no encore. I am glad that I traded a broken guitar Europe 72, and 10 bucks to get in. Hey fellas; Pizza T and Mac Dawg, this is the 1994 showline show we were at whats not to like about that.

Check it out for yourself- revised
This show got this old deadheads juices flowing despite mixed reviews before I listened. Long first set with lots of jamming. I really enjoyed the Music sugar sandwich. FOTD is awesome too. Entire 1st set worth having for sure. Jerry is right on with the lyrics this night too..some good singing.
2nd set- Another awkward 1994 2nd set, with absolute marathon drums>space (32 minutes). Shoe Fits is a lackluster version compared to 6-25-94, which has bounce to it. Other than that, the set is played pretty well, including a nice He's Gone scat vocal section and nice Stella. Help Slip is fast and furious.
4 Stars for 94.
Tech Notes on recording these streams- I am using Media Player 10 to stream them and getting about 180kbps, and recording directly onto my home CDR deck. Very close in quality to the old Shn downloads. And when it's DSBD of this quality, the results are still outstanding. The only downside is the very short pauses between tracks.
I don't miss the shn's at all really, with this kind of result.

The ole boy was hitting it hard during this time. Check out
T.jed and Corrina on 7/3 to see what I mean. Still not bad. The no encore thing had people a bit po'd at the city of mountainview.
revised:
I gave the 3 star review based on being at the gig and thought at the time it was pretty good. having listed to it again I was incredibly underwhelmed. The Music>sugaree>music should have kicked and does not. Second set is pretty sub par. Really falls inot a 2-21/2 catagory.

Bluecaps review juxtaposed with Stealthhippy's review is just proof that Dead shows were very subjective experiences....However, I wouldn't go so far as to say the show was "totally uninspired", then again I wouldn't argue that Jerry was "at his best" this night (or run) either. I was there, and it was a lot more fun at the time than it is to listen to now. To set the record straight, 7/1 and 7/2's encore-less evening's had nothing to do with Weir's not wanting them to play an encore, and everything to do with the City of Mountainview's sound ordinances and curfew. It says it right in DeadBase, "lack of encore due to curfew". The Dead were treading on thin ice with the city and the venue at this point in their career with Shoreline Ampitheatre. It showed in the security measures taken for these shows. Outside the venue it was the exact antithesis of what you'd think a cool west coast show would be. There was no vending allowed, no beer, and no milling around. You were basically corral'ed straight into the show from the moment you parked your car. And when the shows were over, there was no party in the lot.

blown away music>sugaree>music
smile to smile when music sets a sail. It turns to a feeling of being robbed.... no music jam whats that all about. They set into sugaree, a nice sugaree but what about the music jam??? Sugaree ends into a Phil Bass pluge drive into Music Never Stopped jam.. awsome!! Never expected it! by the way the no encore was because of hour restrictions, not Bobby being upset!! Shoreline has stict rules when it comes to hour restrictions.

Portions of this show made up one of my very first tapes, recorded from the Dead Hour. I was 15- years old, and it was some of the hottest s*** I had ever heard! So say what you will about Jerry's deterioration, to a new fan's ears it was still beautiful.:)

This really is what it came to
I remember Shoreline. Sometimes it was joyous sometimes it was fear and loathing. The "natural" curvature of the ampitheatre was actually created by the careful piling of garbage. From the back of the lawn you could see the small fire holes burning excess gas from the festering garbage below. For a scene which was born and nurtured by the "vibe" of the places they performed this was a rather inauspicious indicator of how far off course the whole scene had floundered.
However, when you were down in the pavilion or even sitting comfortably on the lawn, these issues were the last thing on your mind. The band never really lost their ability to groove and tonight's show still demonstrates that Bobby, Mickey, Bill and Phil were an incredibly tight and great band to see. We all know Jerry was the wildcard - he could turn the evening into a incendiary fusion whipping everyone into a frenzy or he could simply melt away into an ethereal abyss of uninspired playing. He was still a very soulful musician just not really a rock star. Bottom line, this show was not their best. I wouldn't recommend downloading it - I think there are better shows out there.

No Encore Reason
Word is Bob refused to play an encore, as he was "upset" with the Band for not staying in tune. I was there and was unhappy. Solid performance and crisp recording for mid-94.
