He's Gone
Jan. 11, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

mammoth 16-minute he's gone. Tonight finding the Dead in a meditative mood after looping estimated prophet for a long time, they really respect He's Gone and give it a leisurely, gliding reading. garcia's lead vocal performance has a dejected, bitter quality, lending these sloth-slow proceedings an extra intensity. Builds to a lacerating full jam.
I Need A Miracle

Nassau Coliseum

Kind of an insane show by any estimate, i mean an 11-minute i need a miracle that's just scorching. Unbelievable!

Nassau Coliseum

Chaotic and a "Real Good Time" at nassau suddenly, and violently coalesces into fireworks on an upbeat and crispy, perfectly eagle's cry Jack Straw, and yeah, JG goes totally wacko nuts on this version, turn it up all the way (1/22/78 might have my slight edge for extending the ideas demonstrated here even further, but this is still an extremely important jack straw
Ramble On Rose
