Dark Star
July 31, 1971
Yale Bowl, Yale University

You gotta love a New Haven dark star.... this is one that devolves into abstract chasms of possibility rather quickly... Beautifully sensitive and free playing from everyone, surges forth in ebbs and flows of rawness. A raucous feelin' groovy emerges from the lysergic haze of space. Good ass stuff. It's before the wall of sound and everyone's amps are majestically distorting, the tones they're getting are just awesome. This version calms down and returns to the main groove just beautifully, nice and gentle, and jams more.

jerry is on big time tonight, his playing on this is great. I hear you two about the tempo but I actually like the extra energy. You can tell it's a special night for them.
