Early Keith version, one of the only early ones with no flubs and no sour vox. And wonderful unfaltering and exciting Jerry on outro solo.

You're right, Unbroken Chain is one where the studio version is better than any live version. But I don't even count the 90s in any of my assessments of such things. Everything they played in the 90s was inferior to the studio recordings, even the lousy studio recordings.

Yes, I firmly stand behind my "crazy" comment that the 5-8-77 Morning Dew is mediocre. I don't get what people hear in that version at all. There is absolutely no intricacy or interplay on the level of this glorious version, and Jerry plays too many flubs. I guess it is just a case of everyone hearing everything differently, which is what makes all these conversations so interesting. I am willing to be convinced of the greatness of 5-8-77, if someone can point me to what to pay attention to. It is certainly not the interplay, and certainly not the solo...

I think you and me, Fazima, are the only ones who are bothered by Jerry's flubbed notes on this version. I must have listened to hundreds of versions of this song, and I just don't get what people hear in this version. There are flubs and the whole thing just drags. What am I missing?

This really is a great Cryptical, and O1. Everyone is looking for something different in various renditions, but for me this tune, particularly the first part, is all about the interplay and counterpoint, which is shining madly in this version. The esteemed 5-2-70 one, though wonderful, just can't compare.

The early fast versions are so much more fun than the slow, dreary reggae versions from later years. And this one really might be the best of them all. The only thing missing from the early versions is the harmonies on the "chorus", which I like a lot and would love to hear on an early one... You can't have everything...
