This is the version of Althea that changed my flawed thinking of, SBDs only! It really led me to seeking the best Aud tapes, here's a great site that list the best Dead Audience tapes http://gdluckynumbers.org/downloadables.htm ... Oh yeah and this is, the FUCKING BEST Althea, it's just drippy sweet Jerry Greatness...Jerry Garcia was an artist the likes of which are measured in centuries, not just the modern era, his musical genius is like that of Mozart...

For me, this version does and says everything that The Other One is all about, crazed powerful, exploratory, deep assed Grateful Dead Jamming, it has that unreal start, with Billy and Mickey holding the triplet build up, and BOOM, all at once they all just hit it and hit it HARD, it doesn't let up for nearly 20 min and then there's this epic solo Jerry, and by solo I mean everyone else stops completely, and Jerry just goes to town with the mutron and the legendary close encounters theme, and it leads into the most incredible psychedelic St. Stephen I've ever heard, the Other One>Stephen>NFA combo is one for the ages and one of the best shows they ever played...

Jerry was tripping on some kind of psychedelic for this show, it's so obvious when you watch the video of Bertha and watch his face as he's playing the solo, I KNOW THAT LOOK, because I've been there so many times, and I'm sure the coke was flowing as well, some of you might know that coke and psychedelics are uh...complementary....But hell it was 78, can you imagine the buffet of drugs available to The GRATEFUL DEAD?
