They Love Each Other
Dec. 31, 1976
Cow Palace
Pretty darn perfect. Mellow funkiness of 76 with 77 precision.

Throwing Stones
Sept. 20, 1990
Madison Square Garden
Contains a cool Samson and Delilah jam with each member (incl. Vince) contributing equally. Everyone is on.

Tennessee Jed

Kongressaal, Deutsches Museum
Jerry is clearly in the mood to rock out in this show, and this song benefits from it. Raw. Great solos. Very funky.

Ramble On Rose

Kongressaal, Deutsches Museum
Band bristles with restrained energy. Jerry's voice is scratchy and perfect. Great harmony on the chorus.

Playin' In The Band
Oct. 15, 1983
Civic Center
This one just "clicked" for me today. A truly inspired Playin' from an era I usually overlook. Special from about 3 minutes in right up until the end.
Johnny B. Goode
Feb. 27, 1977
Robertson Gym, UC Santa Barbara
I think this is actually the best. It's admittedly mellow, but Jerry is dialed in. Consistently sharp and inventive playing throughout. I don't think there's one lead line that's completely by the book.
Promised Land
Feb. 26, 1977
Swing Auditorium
Promised Land is not my cup of tea, but this one was fun
Crazy Fingers
July 13, 1976
Orpheum Theatre
Give this one a minute. Really takes off in the ending jam around 7:30, which feels very 72 to me.
St. Stephen
June 24, 1970
Capitol Theatre
"yeah! yeah!" (pause) "oh no!"
