Big Railroad Blues

Utterly gobsmacked that this ain't here yet: It's a furious barnburner. Full of get up and go.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

A more rocking version than others from the time, and oddly overlooked. Jumps off Cat right away into the long transition. Energetic stuff here.

Is there a single one from '72 that doesn't end in triumph? This song just got better and better throughout Europe. Surprised this wasn't here yet.

Perfect musical sunshine. This one even got my not-at-all-into-the-Dead wife to dance around like a trippin' hippy, so you know it's good.

Unforgivable that you guys overlook Truckin'. There's a reason it's the one song non-heads know. This one is a forgotten colossus. Listen up.

Jerry's first two solos are radio-play perfect, and the ensemble singing on each chorus is a joyous yowp for life. To my ears it drifts out of sync a bit in the outro, but the transition to China Doll is just sublime.

Lot's of love here for the intro... but damn did you guys make it to the outro? The intro starts like silky gossamer and ends like a seven-cylinder jackhammer. It has that nice virtuoso '77 clean feeling while keeping the grit-in-the-gears and hard rocking energy.

Maybe it suffers a bit in comparison to the outrageous excellence of both the first and second set jams? The transition from Franklin's is a bit wobbly - and it takes getting to the first solo for it to really pick up steam, with the Devils driving it back on track for the win.

Up-tempo, but not rushed. Keith is brilliant throughout, complimenting Jerry's endless wingspan.

Soul-sizzling church here. The first half of PiTB noodles and swirls, but by the time Samson comes along they are all swagger and strength. This one is a colossus on its own, but part of an outrageous 1st set sammy it's become one of my top Samsons of all time.
