At risk of putting all '71 up here. Tell me to stop if too much! I just love the twangy country versions, knowing the evolution in store for it.

Extremely powerful. Strong vocals, massive sound, tremendous jam, great mix. Coming off 30 minutes of TOO like a parachute from the ionosphere.

Intricate zigzagging solo work from Jerry, tight ensemble playing. Doesn't ever "soar" like some of them, but more exploratory and compelling.

They announce the set-break, then decide to blow out the tubes on this one, capping one of the best 1st sets of 1971.

Snarling guitar solo and great organ sound in an excellently mixed (Bobby audible always a plus) SBD. The whole first set is sweet heady goodness.

Playin' In The Band
Nov. 7, 1971
Harding Theatre

Sounds like Keith's on a honky-tonk acoustic, well mic'd (amplified (well who knows maybe otherwise too)) for this cool '71 version. Phil's all over it too. Really hot show - just amazing how they're pushing and pulling against the melody before the out chorus.

Surf punk! 10 years before the Sex Pistols. Who said these guys were hippies?!

Total '67 insanity. Fully shredding, the fastest version I know from back when the boys were considered menaces to straight society. A raging mad maelstrom with a penchant for dosing the uninitiated. This whole show explodes.

Show is something different from the juggernauts from earlier on the tour, so doesn't get all the love it deserves. This Eyes is so inventive and exploratory, subtle yet bizarre. Great stuff. Nice Slipknot tease around 11:15. It's the 2nd one in the show after the melt from UJB back into Playin' earlier.
Scarlet Begonias

The groove, the groove: Captures the complexity and beauty of Scarlet all the while up on its toes for a traipsing sensual and funtime dance-along. Hot mellow summertime Dead goodness like all the best of '73-'74.
